Lucy's Story...
Meet the beautiful Lucy! Lucy came to us heartworm positive with 2 little boys. She raised them up and we treated her heartworms and now she is looking for a home of her own. Lucy is a very sweet dog who gets along well with other dogs, indoor cats and small children. She currently lives with a 4 year old human and a cat. She used to chase the cat occasionally when one of her sons would get her started but never came close to hurting her. Lucy is a blue heeler or blue heeler mix, we aren't exactly sure, and she is a nice medium size- in the 40-45 lb range. She is not as crazy high energy as some heelers but she is no couch potato either. Her age estimate is 3-4 years. Pictures will never do this girl justice, she is even more beautiful in person.

If you are interested in meeting Lucy please fill out the application found here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. You will be asked to complete a few forms. By filling out these forms, you are not committing yourselves to the pet you're interested in; it's a screening process that must be completed before you meet the dog. Please do this BEFORE calling. Our voicemail is only checked periodically, and you can reach us much faster through our website. Thank you!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lucy, a Manhattan Blue Heeler dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Blue Heeler for sale in Manhattan, or seeking a Blue Heeler dog from a breeder in Manhattan.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Manhattan already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Manhattan breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Blue Heeler breeders who help with Blue Heeler rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Manhattan paves the way for another one to be saved.
