My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sally is a beautiful young girl that is coming along nicely in learning her basic obedience and socialization skills. She is friendly with everyone and will do anything to please her people. She does have some hound in her and will need a securely fenced yard to play in. She is a gentle dog who would do well in a family with children to play with and someone that is home more often than not to continue her training. Sally is a young dog approximately 10 months - a year old and currently weighs 20 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Sally is a sociable dog who would much rather have your attention than play with any toy! She really just wants to be nearby regardless of what you are doing. She hasn't made a peep since she's been here, just a little whimpering when in her crate sometimes. She's a quick learner, responding very well and adapting to our routine easily and hasn't had an accident in our house yet! We would say that Sally acts fairly young as she is inquisitive of her surroundings and will still often need direction to keep off people. She doesn't seem to be interested or understand what her toys are for, but loves to go for long walks and a good jog every morning! Sally's energy level is moderate as she is more than happy to snuggle on the couch or take a nap in your arms, but definitely does better when she has had a good run in the morning and walk in the afternoon.

Sally LOVES people. All people. She wants to greet everyone she comes across and has been getting much better at not jumping up when she does this. She hasn't had direct contact with children as of yet, but she does see them on walks in our neighbourhood (lots of families and schools) and is just as interested as with anyone else. I imagine that she would do fine as long as she doesn't jump up and knock them over since she doesn't bark or nip (doesn't even really open her mouth). Sally shows no shyness whatsoever, she is more than happy to get all the attention people will give her! Sally has seen both dogs and cats on her walks but has not interacted with them directly. She seemed more interested in the dogs than the cats, but did not bark or jump at either of them.

Sally barely opens her mouth, we can't even get her to carry her toy in her mouth or chew on it. She has never growled, snarled, or barked at anyone or anything. She has only ever tried to chew on a knitted hat that was left on a couch, but was very responsive and stopped when scolded. Yesterday she did try to chew on the sweater I was wearing, but we put a stop to that as well.

When we leave the house Sally is crated. She now shows no signs of separation anxiety or destructive behaviours at all. She does not bark, but she may whine a little when she first goes in. She has not had an accident in our house. Sally is an inquisitive and curious pup that has shown no fear or anxiety regarding cars, bikes, buses, big dogs barking etc. She is not fond of the blender, but seems okay with the hair dryer. Her favourite thing to do is go for walks/runs and hang out with her people friends. She wants your attention more than anything else (including treats), so she is happy to do whatever it is you are doing. Sally is super quiet, barely making a noise, let alone a bark (both in the home and outside).

Sally initially chewed a nearby rug, but it was her first night being crated and has since not touched a thing. She is very interested in human food but is typically redirectable, following commands for 'off''. Additionally, we eat on the couch (which she is allowed to sit on during the day) so this complicates eating dinner. I feel as though she would do much better with the begging for food if dinner was eaten at a table, although she would still likely need to be redirected initially.

Sally is very responsive to tone and understands when she has done something wrong immediately, but she does not respond to commands consistently. She does, however, always come to you if you whistle. We didn't train her to do that, just an observation we had that seems to work consistently. She is VERY opposed to sitting, which we have been attributing to her bony hindquarters, but she has no issue lying down - just not on command. We have been very consistent with "Off" for when she is jumping on people or furniture that she is not supposed to and she seems to understand but still requires a physical prompt most times.

We would say Sally is housetrained as she has not had an accident in our house and is very consistent with going to the door when she needs to go out. Sally is crate trained, spending at least a couple hours a day in the crate while we are out, as well as at night. She sometimes will whimper for a short time, but typically is ok whether you are home or not. She does sometimes paw at the locks on the crate door when she gets very excited to get out or is she really needs to go out.

Sally is lead by her nose. She does a good job on her leash but her attention is often all over the place watching squirrels, people, cats, cars, etc. and smelling everything. She does sometimes pull as a result but if you keep her head up during walks she is much easier to take out. She also LOVES her morning runs/jogs and does exceptionally well with these (as long as she doesn't chase a squirrel!) Sally loves car rides! She is still a bit hesitant to jump into the car but is getting much better. She does well to sit on the passengers lap, but does much better in the back seat.

Sally is a wonderful dog who is well on her way to learning her commands as she loves to please her people! She wants your attention and presence more than anything else and is willing and adaptable with great basic manners already!

We feel Sally would do best in a home that can provide her with the attention she wants and needs. A home that has a backyard would be nice, but she will definitely need some good exercise time if you plan on having some down time in the home.

If you think Sally would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
