My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Snoopy is a gentle, loving, intelligent boy. He loves everyone and everything he meets. He is trustworthy in the home, picks up on commands and routines quickly and is an overall easy keeper. He would do well in a family situation as he loves children and another dog for a buddy would be great too. Snoopy is approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 28 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Snoopy is definitely a people dog. He loves everyone and everything he comes into contact with. Since there are no children in the house, I can only assume by the way he reacts to kids on the street during our walks that he is a gentle and loving dog. He licks their hands and is super friendly and I think he would really enjoy children. The only thing to watch out for his jumping up on them to lick their faces. This is completely harmless and he can definitely be taught not to do that. I have not had any negative experiences with Snoopy.

Snoopy is definitely the opposite of shy. If someone comes through the door, he doesn’t always run up to them but stays in his chair while his tail is thumping in excitement. There are no other dogs in the house, but on walks he always wants to go and meet with the dogs we pass. He would do great with a play buddy. Snoopy's favourite things to do are to be with his people and getting pets or to be outside where he can follow his nose and take in all the smells.

Snoopy bonds quickly and is a very loyal dog. The first time I left Snoopy alone in the home he started barking. Once my housemates made it clear he wasn’t alone in the house he settled down but still waited for me at the door for 20 minutes. After spending some more time with us, he has been fine when people leave. We have only left him alone for a short period of time but he does not seem to be destructive. He searches the house to look for people and then goes to his chair to sleep. For a beagle, he is surprisingly quiet. He whines a little when you stop petting him but that is just because he wants you to continue. Other than this he is VERY quiet. He seems to be pretty comfortable in the home so I don’t think he will get louder.

Snoopy’s house manners are great. He never tries to steal food, he doesn’t beg for food. He’s very intelligent. He only has tried to take a few socks but once he was given his soft toys, he hasn’t shown any sign of taking anything he shouldn’t be. I think with a bit of training he can learn most commands quickly. I have managed to get him to listen to “stay” a few times, and “sit”. He would benefit from someone who would take the time to take him to classes or teach him at home. With consistency and lots of positive reinforcement I think Snoopy would learn quickly and whatever you wanted to teach him. He is very eager to please.

He is house trained. He doesn’t exactly let me know when he needs to go out to do his business but he just waits until we take him out. Snoopy is somewhat crate trained. He doesn’t willingly go into the crate, but once in the crate he is fine and lays down to sleep. He is only crated at night at about 10pm until morning. He has also slept at the foot of my bed one night (he fell asleep there and I felt bad dragging him off), and he did great. I really don't think this boy would need to be crated as he is trustworthy in the home.

Snoopy must be on a leash at all times. He is a beagle and will run fast to follow a scent he is interested in. On walks and runs there is tension on the leash but he doesn’t “pull” the walker. He just loves to be outside! Snoopy will try to escape and bolt out the door after you. It is best to be well aware of where he is when you open the door and a securely fenced yard for him to run around in would be great for him. Snoopy does not jump in the car on his own. I have yet to figure out why but once he is put into the car, he is fine! He doesn’t whine or bark or act scared.

Snoopy would do well with anyone. He just loves the attention. He’s a curious dog that needs a little bit of training in terms of listening to commands but other than that he is a very good dog. My housemates call him “perfect”. He is so well behaved! As much as he loves the attention, he is very content sleeping lots but prefers to be in the same room as you.

Snoopy would benefit from being in a home with someone who could take him on faster walks/runs or a securely fenced in yard so he can get the exercise he needs. He loves to play and would benefit from another dog in the home and/or children that would enjoy playing with him. He will make a wonderful family pet.

If you think Snoopy would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
