ADOPTED ON 05-22-15 - Benji and Sandra were rescued together from a pound down south with deplorable conditions. This video is from their first day experiencing freedom. Benji is male Beagle mix. He loves to play, but will hang out with you on the couch and snuggle once playtime is over. Sandra is female and thought to be a Doberman. She is shy at first, but does warm up once she has had a little time, and this girl is just as sweet as can be! She is always watching Benji very closely and takes her cues from him. These two are bonded and will need a home together. Both dogs are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. If you are interested in adopting Benji and Sandra please fill out an application on our website at www.rescuedogvillage.com

Sandra is a 1 year old female Doberman mix, spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and approximately 40lbs. She spent almost the entire first year of her life in the Winnsboro, Louisiana dog pound, and her only contact with kindness was when a small group of volunteers would come by daily to walk the dogs on leashes. That is until she and her kennel neighbor Benji were taken into foster care in CT on June 7th. Sandra and Benji remain very close as they experienced all their tough times side by side.

Sandra is a very special girl. Unfortunately, she experienced some trauma early on in her life, so she needs an extra special adopter to continue to show her that there are kind people in the world. Sandra has made lots of progress after being in her foster home for 2 months. At first, she would not go through doorways and would spin in circles, because she was not sure if there was something to be wary of on the other side. She would not even come up on the bed to say hello to her foster mom the way the other dogs would. Now she very rarely spins in circles, and loves receiving her individualized greeting. Sandra lives with 5 other dogs and frequently enjoys playing with Benji a beagle mix, Basil a Jack Russell, and Lea a lab/greyhound mix. As you can see, she enjoys canine playmates of various sizes. She has done well with house training, but needs to go out after around 5-6 hours. She currently lives with a cat and does not chase her, as her foster mom has set the rules that the cat is to be left alone. She enjoys going for rides in the car with her foster mom. Sandra needs a little help with her leash skills. She was so unsure of so many things at first, her foster mom did not want to overload her with too many changes at once.

Sandra is a bit unsure of new people at first, given her past. Men in particular, she takes a bit longer to warm up to. We are fairly certain that she had experienced some abuse at the hands of a man early on and this is why she is so wary. She has made wonderful progress with men and approaches them if the other dogs are also greeting a man, in other words, she feels secure around men when she is within the pact. This is a huge positive step and shows that she can get to trust men and it will not take a long time. She does approach men, but always very slowly. She has not been around children, but would be great with them because of her gently personality and she would be able to relate to them; children over 9 who could understand that she needs some time to come out of her shell. She does excellent in a crate.

The ideal adopter for Sandra would be someone extremely loving and patient. Someone who would continue to work with her on building confidence, and understand that because she is so special it might just take her a little more time. Sandra is very dog social and would enjoy a home with other dogs. It would be excellent if she and Benji could go to a home together, as they make the perfect combo. He is confident and helps her become more confident, and she helps bring down some of his energy with her mellow temperament. Her new home could possibly include a cat, or children over 9 years old. Once Sandra is sure she can trust you, she is never not by your side. She will be down for anything you want to do, whether it is playing in the yard or lying down quietly, and the soulful look in her eyes just melts your heart. Previous dog owner experience would be helpful, but is not a requirement. It would be wonderful if her new home included someone who works from home, so she could spend lots of time with them. Can you be Sandra's savior and show her that there are kind people out there, and tell her how good a girl she is while she quietly drifts off to sleep at your feet? Please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting.

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you
