My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kintsugi, or "Sugi" was named for the Japanese art form that is based on the philosophy of embracing what is flawed by making it more beautiful. In Japanese Kintsugi, cracks in pottery and glass, etc. are filled with pure gold, repairing the item and making it more valuable and beautiful than before. Sugi was so terribly broken when our volunteers found her, but her splotches of gold color made the name a perfect fit!

Sugi was found in a large empty parking lot way out in the country. She appeared to be living with a feral colony, as our volunteers had seen hundreds of cats milling about in the area, but none were friendly enough to venture near.... none except Sugi. Sugi came running toward our volunteers and literally jumped into their arms. It was dark out so they did not realize she was not a baby, because she was so tiny.

Sugi was covered in fleas, lice, and had a terrible infection in her mouth, and it was very evident she was hungry. Our regular vet told us she was between 1-2 years old, but had lived a very traumatic life as evidenced by her broken teeth and the condition of her skin and fur. She was also covered in scabs and sores, and her mouth and nose were running! The vets gave her medicines and all her little hitchhikers were killed off and she soon began to feel much better. She was spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. She also surprised us by testing negative for feline leukemia and FIV! Hooray! The only issue now is her age. The vet who spayed her said they think she is older than 1-2 years because she has had litters of kittens before. They placed her age at about 7 years old, but our regular vet still disagrees. So, we are left not knowing how old she really is at all!

Sugi is now completely on the mend! She gets along well with other cats, is extremely sociable and cuddly, loves to be petted and will sleep next to her person curled up in the small of your back or behind your knees. She "talks" with little purr-meows when she wants attention. For being on her own in the bitter cold, Sugi holds no grudges against humans, and at some point was very well socialized! She will be required to be an indoor-only cat from now on, to prevent her from ever getting lost and/or abandoned again. We also will not permit her to be declawed.

Sugi is a perfect lady and is 100% litterbox trained. She has had no accidents since the moment she was rescued and is faithful about using her litterbox. She eats a combination of dry food (left out always with a bowl of fresh water nearby), and wet food twice a day.

Sugi is gentle and sweet, and will make the perfect addition to any home! And she really wants one in time for the holidays!
