My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bugs is a VERY happy and friendly dog who's tail NEVER stops wagging. He is a lovely soul who would be anyone's best friend. He will snuggle in close if you let him or give you your space if you'd rather that. He would also be great as a second dog as he LOVES to play. Bugs is also a great size at 25ish pounds - he's like a big small dog (or a little big dog depending on how you look at it!). Bugs is a young boy approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years old.

Here is what else Bugs foster family had to say:

Bugs has been friendly with EVERYBODY he has met. No matter who comes through the front door, he greets them with his whole body wiggling with excitement and tail wagging! He is most definitely a lover and I am quite confident that he will be just as friendly and gentle with children. Bugs does not seem to have one aggressive bone in his body. Even when our other dog Ray steals his toys or treats or if he simply rejects Bugs' invitation to play, Bugs always remains calm and happy. Bugs does not appear to have any shyness towards anyone or anything. If something is new to him, he seems to be curious rather than afraid. He is a confident little guy!

Bugs has been great with our dog Ray (less than half Bugs' size). We have not met too many other dogs yet but judging from his calm and friendly demeanour, I cannot image him to be anything different when meeting new doggy friends. I have also noticed that he does not seem to have a prey drive - unlike our other dog who chases/barks/lunges at squirrels and cats, Bugs seems totally unphased and carries on our walk. This leads me to believe that he would be ok with cats though he has not had a close encounter with one yet.

Bugs seems to be at a great stage in his young adulthood - he is over the very hyper puppy age but he definitely still has a lot of energy if he wishes to exert it! At the same time, he is an expert cuddler and is happy to lay next to you if its time to relax! He LOVES to play and will get excited when he's in that mood. Otherwise, he pretty much mirrors his human friends - will relax if we're relaxed, or will be curious and follow us around if we're on the move. Overall, Bugs is moderate energy level.

It was clear that Bugs never had any training prior to staying with us. He does not know any commands yet, but he has learned some things from our other dog Ray (sitting when a treat is offered, peeing with his leg up!). He is very food motivated though and his big happy face tells me he just wants to please his humans ! Bugs will most definitely need further training regarding his puppy-like behaviours (uses his mouth to play, begs for food), but that being said, Bugs is far from being a nuisance. He is overall a polite dog but will need to learn his boundaries. Bugs is well on his way to being house trained. There have been a few days where he was accident free! As long as his water intake is monitored and he gets outside enough, I believe Bugs will be a pro in no time! Bugs does not love to go in his crate but once he is in there he settles down very fast. He is only in there to sleep at night and if we are out of the house for an extended amount of time. He has gotten much better on leash since he came to be with us but needs more leash training as he still pulls quite a bit. Because of his size, his pulling is still manageable (not like he'll pull you over), however walks with him would be more enjoyable once he learns to walk nice.

We are in an apartment so I have not seen how Bugs would react in a fenced back yard, but I do not believe he is the escaping type - he is a Velcro dog and loves to be with his humans! We have only been in the car once together and Bugs sat like a true gentleman in the back seat, looking out the window. Bugs appears to be in great health - has a great appetite and energy level and a gorgeous coat with beautiful markings. It does look like he may have had some trauma to one eye as it is (very interestingly!) marked differently than the other and his hair has not quite grown back around that same eye. He does not appear to be in any discomfort whatsoever though and its barely noticeable to look at.

Bugs is an all around happy and loving fur ball. He loves to be around his people and bonded right away with our other dog as well. With more training, Bugs will be a perfect pup and surely make whoever he meets fall in love with him. Nothing beats coming home to a tail wagging, body wiggling guy who will smother you in kisses if you let him!

Due to the fact Bugs still uses his mouth quite a bit (not aggressively of course), I don't think he should go home with young children who may be startled by this behaviour and his energy. At the same time, Bugs is just so special that anyone who is willing to train him properly and give him the attention that he deserves will find him to be the perfect match. He has done well in an apartment as long as he gets enough exercise to use up all that energy!

If you would like to make Bugs a part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
