My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rosie: 4-1/2-yr-old spayed female black lab 59 lbs

Hi, I am Rosie the Riveting! I am one beautiful babe! Like the English? Then you’ll love my blocky English style head and body.

I‘m small. And I’m CUTE! And I mean, really cute! I will be a perma-puppy for all of my life. And I love to cuddle, and I am shamelessly free with my kisses. Give me a hug? Lick! Rub my belly? Lick! Give it a try! I guarantee you’ll love it!

My previous owner loved me and I was queen of the house! I don’t understand why he was upset when I took over! After all, he left all those entertaining things for me on the counters…the furniture…in every room! How was I supposed to resist? He never said anything! Was it my fault if I got into what he left out?

And I love to eat! My motto us “if I can find it, if I can get to it, I will eat it!” My former owner said I was food obsessed…I am a Lab! What Lab isn’t food obsessed? I am just better at it than most!

But most of all, I am just a bundle of love! Will you take me home and teach me how to be the great dog I am inside?

What Rosie’s Foster says:

Rosie is a total sweetheart. She gets alone with dogs of all sizes, as well as the cat. She’s crate trained and sleeps happily in her crate at night. She’ll even go in on her own from time to time. She has lots of energy, and we’re working on the leash walking. She’s not jumping up any more. She’s a really smart girl. She loves her food! Rosie will need to eat separately from other dogs, and she should have a Go Slow bowl so that she can’t bolt her food. Rosie really loves to play with the ball, and needs someone (human or canine) to play with her. She’s a quiet dog, and doesn’t bark.

What Rosie’s Rescue Rep says:

It wasn’t so rosy for Rosie for a while. While Rosie was in a loving home, she spent much of her time carousing around her backyard playing with an older lab – and just tearing the place up. Rosie’s owner found it extremely difficult to manage Rosie’s antics. Her owner wasn’t able to walk the two dogs, so she wasn’t getting any exercise, other than what she gave herself in the backyard. Being cooped up inside the home and yard likely only increase Rosie’s anxieties. She also wasn’t getting leadership, direction or correction, and so she took matters into her own paws. Ultimately Rosie’s owner felt it was best for Rosie to surrender her to GGLRR.

We now have Rosie in a foster home with 2-3 other dogs (the number varies from time to time) and she is doing great. Her foster mom has begun crate training her, and she sleeps well in her crate in the bedroom at night. She has not been counter surfing, and she gets along well with the other dogs. When the foster mom has to go out, Rosie is confined in the kitchen with the other dogs, behind a baby gate, and she’s been just fine. Rosie is easy to walk on a correction collar (she pulls with other collars) and takes treats gently.

We’d like Rosie to go to an experienced dog home, where someone is home with her most of the the time to train her, and where the humans have the time, experience and inclination to reinforce that training with love and consistency. Rosie is sort of a puppy in a 4 year old Lab body, so her new family will need to be patient with her and bring her along to where she should be at 4 years old. For the right family, this will be a rewarding and fun project. She loves kids and would fine in a home with children over the age of 5.

Rosie is spayed, current on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Rosie is being fostered in San Jose.

If you are interested in Rosie and have the time, experience and inclination to work with Rosie to be the wonderful dog she can be, call Rescue Rep Debbi 408-309-7830.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
