My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Mikey is one adorable pipsqueak, with a BIG personality. He is one of the most jovial canine characters that we've met in sometime. Our collective mind boggles at yet another beautiful, sweet, adult dog surrendered by owners to a high kill Animal Control Shelter. We feel like Fantasia's Mickey Mouse as the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" awash in just one more bucket of water.

Mikey is that one in a million dog who is so well adjusted that he moved through the perilous City Shelter process as though it were a romp through Central Park, with a hot dog treat at the end. Shelter staff and volunteers adored Mikey and he received very favorable behavior evaluations. Sadly, Mikey caught the Kennel Cough bug, that excludes great dogs from the adoption program, and puts them at risk for euthanasia, unless a rescue steps up.

And so, we were called in on Mikey's behalf, and we are thrilled that he is with us. After a short course of antibiotics, Mikey was as good as new and ready to join his new Foster Mom, and housemate Rudy, who came from the same shelter a few years before. Mikey has blended beautifully into his new foster home, and has quickly adapted to house rules.

Mikey is a four year old, Adult Miniature Pinscher, who is the picture perfect breed standard in looks and temperament. Weighing 8 pounds, he is a tiny boy, with a thickset, muscular physique and impressive stature. He would be a great choice for an experienced Min Pin lover who relishes the creative, comical hijinks that this whimsical breed is famous for.

Mikey would do well in the active home of a single or couple who have the time to focus on his exercise and obedience work. Or, he could join a busy family lifestyle, where he could flounce around as the center of attention. Mikey loves human contact, but can become nervous around toddlers. He would enjoy the gentle attention of older kids or teens, and would fit in nicely in a multi-dog or cat scenario.

Mikey has excellent house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to forgive the occasional accident as Mikey adapts to his new potty routine. He travels well and is an ideal car passenger. He is small enough to fit into an airline approved Sherpa bag, and would be a great companion on plane trips.

Mikey appears to have been well cared for: his skin and coat are soft and lustrous and his teeth and gums are in good shape for an adult dog. A consistent dental care plan will go a long way to avoid future dental cleanings and extractions. Mikey is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and had a negative fecal test. If you are interested in Mikey, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
