My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kasey is an amazing little companion. He is so well behaved, so very loving and very obedient. He loves everyone and has such a good temperament. He is great with other dogs of all sizes and would be fine with cats too. He is okay with people of all ages and makes friends wherever he goes. He enjoys getting out for his daily walks but is just content to be snuggling with his people in front of the tv. He can be totally trusted in the home while you are away and is clean and quiet. He is a perfect little gentleman and a great little companion. This amazing little man is approximately 8 - 9 years old and currently weighs 16 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

The best way to describe Kasey is that he is a calm and gentle soul that blossoms in the presence of people. He is very warm and affectionate with everyone. He is easy-going and loves to snuggle. He just LOVES being around people in general! When guests come over, or when being introduced to strangers he is always happy to say hello. He never jumps on anyone or tries to lick them but instead just gives them a sniff. I'm sure he would get along well with children too. He is also very calm around other dogs. When we are out on a walk, even if the other dog is really excited to meet him, Kasey remains calm and friendly. He gives the dogs a sniff and then is perfectly fine continuing on with our walk. I am sure he would be great with any other pets in the home. Kasey is also non shedding and hypoallergenic. I had a friend over that is allergic to dogs and she had no problem being with Kasey.

With his own people he is so happy and likes to just be with you, doing whatever you are doing. He is generally very quiet in the home but when he hears me coming home each day he barks a little in excitement before I come through the door. Now matter where he is in the house, he comes flying to greet you when you come home. He has such a gentle nature however that he will never jump on you. His energy level is low and he is always calm and well behaved. Kasey has an excellent temperament and takes extra caution when accepting food from your hand. He is the perfect companion for anyone looking for a little buddy. Kasey's favourite pastime is simply being next to you. I catch myself looking at him while he is sleeping soundly by my side and think "He is such a good boy!"

One of his best qualities is how obedient and easy to take care of he is. Kasey is fully house trained, he doesn't chew anything he shouldn't, he learns quickly what the rules are in the home and what he can and can not do, he doesn't beg for human food and he comes the second you call him. Kasey was rescued from a cruelty case and had a horrible flea infestation. It has been 100% cleared and his fur is growing back quickly. He is getting cuter and cuter each day! Kasey is very healthy otherwise and has a young spring in his step when he goes out for walks. He has excellent bladder control and two walks a day will suffice and because he is an older dog, he doesn't need long walks. He's still able to jump easily onto couches but he’s good about staying off furniture he shouldn’t be on (tables, counters, etc.). His energy level is low and calm. He's the perfect companion for a person or family looking for some company. He's very good when he's home alone. He mainly just sleeps throughout the day (I used ustream.tv to check in on him when I am in the office). He is curious when sounds suddenly occur, but he has no great fears of anything.

Kasey's favourite thing to do is to snuggle right up against you and fall asleep. He feels warm and safe when he’s in the company of people. When he is really happy, he will bury his face into you and turn onto his back, kicking with joy. The sight will warm your heart. His second favourite thing is going out for walks. Don’t be fooled by his age! He has an energetic spring in his step that makes everyone he comes across smile at his cheeriness. Outdoors, he is very inquisitive but obedient – it’s a lot of fun taking him out! Kasey never barks when someone is home with him. He might bark once if he’s very anxious because he knows he’s about to get food or treats. He also learns very quickly – With one warning, he has learned not to go on tables. All he really needs is a spot next to wherever you are sitting.

Kasey doesn’t know some of the basic commands such as “sit” or “down” but he will almost always come to you when you ask, even if he knows he’s in a little bit of trouble. He is extremely obedient. He now fully understands "treats" and "outside". If he shows excitement when you ask if he wants to go outside, it means he’s due for a walk. Kasey is fully house trained. He has been living with me in downtown Toronto and only on one occasion has he urinated inside and it was likely because it was the first time he was left home alone in the evening. He has been left alone once in a while in the evenings after that first occasion and it has never become an issue again. He will let you know when he needs to go outside. Kasey is not crate trained and will bark if he is locked in it. I give him the living room space and close the bedroom, den, and bathroom doors before leaving for work and he’s very happy with that. Kasey is leash trained and has had no issues walking in downtown Toronto with tons of other people, dogs, cars, etc. He follows the owner very well and always receives smiles from other pedestrians. At first, Kasey would run out the door into the condo hallway. He’s not trying to escape, he is just excited. But now he stays inside to greet people. He doesn't bolt away anymore. Kasey is easy to take into the car. He sleeps through the whole ride and he doesn't bark at others nearby. Even when the car is parked and strangers are exiting/entering their cars, he remains calm and goes back to sleep.

The perfect older dog, Kasey is easy and an absolute pleasure to take care of. He is calm and gentle, and all he wants is some company. Because he is a mature dog, he’s fully house trained and very low maintenance. There is little need to discipline Kasey, as a stern ‘No’ is equivalent to telling him “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed”. Kasey gets along well with everyone – he doesn’t bolt at the sight of other dogs, but instead politely says ‘hi’ with a gentle sniff, if allowed. He has made quick friends with many people that we encountered on walks and in the building lobby. Don’t be fooled by his age! Kasey has an endearing bounce in his step and can keep up with a light jog every now and then. He is a lot of fun to walk with – he is so curious about the world and just loves exploring it. Kasey also adapts to a routine very quickly. In less a week, he can settle comfortably into starting with a morning walk and a bite of breakfast, followed by napping while you’re at work, ecstatically greeting you when you get home, going out for an evening walk, before coming home to enjoy dinner and finally snuggling on the couch for some TV to end the day.

Kasey is a sweet and gentle dog that would make a perfect addition to any home. He gets along wonderfully with people of all ages and will quickly worm his way into your heart. His calm and gentle nature suits children particularly well. Kasey would be ideal for an individual, couple, or family looking for a low maintenance dog with lots of love to give. An older individual or couple with a quiet lifestyle would also be a great fit.

Kasey can live comfortably in any apartment/condo or house. He doesn’t require very long walks as his energy level isn’t as high, so letting him out into a backyard will most likely suffice.

If you think Kasey would be a good companion for your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
