My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SUNSHINE is a 7 year old spayed yellow female Lab who weighs 67 pounds. She lived in the country and has had limited exposure to city noises, traffic, and groups of people. Sunshine is a friendly girl considering she's lived tied to a chain for the past several years. She's learning to walk on a leash and stops to get approval from her handler. She's a very submissive girl. She is friendly with other dogs and people. She loves to give kisses and sit on your lap. She just wants to absorb as much love as possible. She's learning to adjust to living not being tied to a chain. She's coming around well with the attention from the kennel staff. Sunshine is approved for kids ages 10+.

UPdate (01/04):: While the foster parent’s create some sort of mega presentation about me, I thought I would sneak on the computer and tell you what I am looking for in a home. I’d like another dog- not just for companionship, but to teach me the rules. I’d like someone who will take me for walks to build up my muscles after life on a chain. I’d like older children because sometimes I get very- what’s the word? – excited? exuberant? joyful? I’d like someone who will appreciate my kisses and playful personality as much as my cozy cuddles on the sofa. I’m getting all that at my foster home and I’ve sort of come to expect it now.

Update (12/27): Sunshine passed the cat test with flying colors! She is getting along great with the four resident dogs, using the dog door and choosing to sleep on the ginormous dog bed outside the bedroom. Sunshine is a counter surfer but we are working on that. The house training is coming along, she does use the dog door to go outside for the most part. Sunshine is fine going into the crate but doesn't really like it and can get a bit nervous inside. She is eager to please and learns quickly.

Update (12/17): They call me Velcro, but my real name is Sunshine. I sit on one hip so I can rotate back and forth between foster mom and foster dad when they decide they have to use their hands for something other than petting me. I am not that interested in toys but human attention is my big motivator; I am quickly becoming a champion snuggler and facewasher. I was kind of wild on the leash during my trip down here, but now, FM has me healing off the leash and we play a game to see how fast I can sit when she stops. Other than that game, though, I am still learning to sit and lay down and to keep my paws to myself. I haven’t had any accidents at night or while the foster parents are at work.

Update (12/16): Sunshine is the epitome of a Velcro dog: she sits on one hip so she can rotate as you move around and just melts to the touch, however she does need a manners tuneup. She needs work on the leash and needs to be restrained in the car since she insists on driving. After so many years outside she also needs a quick course on housebreaking, but she's doing great on that. Sunshine and Sugar Baby get along well together but are not bonded. We can say, without reservation, that they are true sweethearts!
