My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sabrina came into rescue right before Thanksgiving with a very urgent medical condition requiring immediate surgery. Fortunately, FFGDRI sprung into action to make her lifesaving surgery possible! Sweet, 4 year old Brina has proven to be quite a fighter and her will to recover has shone through! From the moment she was surrendered to us, she began winning over the hearts of each person she met. She is truly one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs who is happiest when close to her humans!

A few weeks later, our brindle, mixed breed (maybe Dane, maybe Lab, maybe Plott hound) Sabrina, is thriving in her foster home. She is slowly gaining some much-needed weight and recovering nicely from surgery. She currently weighs 65 lbs, but will top out at around 80 lbs when she gains back what she lost due to her illness. Fortunately, the surgery fixed her medical issue and full recovery is underway. Sabrina is completely house broken and crate trained. She is best left crated when her family leaves because she does suffer from some separation anxiety.

Sabrina knows how to ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘lay’, and ‘leave it’. She loves treats and will do just about anything to earn one. She walks nicely on a leash without pulling, but is a bit unsure outside in the open. Overall, gaining confidence is a work in progress for our girl. She will ‘counter surfing’ for snacks when foster mom isn’t looking, but that is about as bad a habit as this wonderful girl has. She corrects easily with verbal commands, and doesn’t like when anyone raises their voice. In fact, she gets quite scared when one of her foster siblings gets yelled at or if there are any quick movements around her. She would be best in a home with patient, gentle, and calm humans. Speaking of humans, she has yet to meet one she doesn’t like. She is good with men, woman, and children. She loves to snuggle, give kisses and will follow her favorite humans from room to room just to be near them. Once in a while she will wander into another room to find her favorite stuffed toy, but she is quick to return to her human’s side with toy in tow. This special toy is not for playing tug though; it’s more of a security blanket. She has begun venturing out in the yard a bit to explore, but will stay very near the porch. Her foster family continues to work on making Sabrina realize that she is safe and secure.

Sabrina is fostered in a home with furry foster siblings and while everyone coexists rather well, she gets nervous around the dogs bigger than her. She doesn’t like to feel confined around them and will growl at them even if they are just sniffing her. She does great with her smaller, furry foster brother as well as the cat. She doesn’t seem interested in playing with the other animals and will avoid them for the most part. Brina is a dog who would not mind being an only ‘child’ at all, and would need to be with a non-dominant, medium to small furry friend if she does go to a home with other dogs. She really just wants to be loved on by her humans, and ignores the attempts at play by her foster siblings.

This special girl has been through a lot and she deserves the love of a forever family that will be patient as she learns to trust them. A home with lots of love and kindness to share would be best for her. She is calm and gentle and sweet… All Brina wants (and deserves) is the approval and affection of her people and we believe that the perfect home for her is out there!
