My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

3/4/15 Update: Blondie’s Foster Mom says that Blondie has a classic Golden personality, affectionate and happy, with the Golden nudge perfected to ask for petting, and loving to cuddle! She visited the groomers and is looking gorgeous. The groomer said she had a huge smile on her face all through her bath. There was a kitty at the groomer’s who was stressed, and Blondie got very upset that the kitty was unhappy, wanting to comfort her. Blondie loves all other dogs, cats, and mostly people. She likes to be in the same room with her person and to be included. Blondie enjoys her crate for sleeping at night and to hang out at times during the day, watching household activity. She thinks this is fun! She enjoys car rides and jumps right up into her Foster’s car. She pulls just a little on a leash, but we know her leash skills will improve with practice, as she had not had many leash walks in her former life, and because she doesn’t want to be far from her person. She plays nicely with her Foster’s resident dog as well as her chocolate lab friend Hunter, who she lived with for two years. Blondie could stand to lose about 10 lbs, and regular walks should help her lose that extra weight. She is recovering from a urinary tract infection, and otherwise is in good heath. Blondie is waiting for a home where she will be treasured. Click here to see Blondie in her first snow.

Background: Blondie is an 8-year old purebred Golden Retriever who was rescued from a shelter in June of 2012. She lived in the South with her Chocolate lab brother Hunter for the past two years, before both dogs needed to be re-homed because their family is being deployed overseas. We first believed the two were bonded so planned to place them together, but we found that both dogs simply adore all other dogs, are not tightly bonded together, and that they have different needs. Therefore, we are looking for separate homes so each can be as happy as can be in their respective forever homes. The family told us that Blondie is the most lovable dog they have ever owned. They said, "She is the most loyal, sweetest dog you'll ever meet. She's never met a stranger and all she wants in life is affection and love. She also loves the water, being brushed, car rides, and just being social around people, being included.” Blondie enjoys walks, running and playing with other dogs, but mostly she enjoys being with her people, right by your side.. She is excellent around kids and even took a liking to the kitty at the groomer's. At her last complete vet visit in October, Blondie weighed 76 lbs and can stand to lose a few pounds. Regular walks should help her slim down nicely!

Blondie is fully vetted, heartworm negative, and spayed. She is in her foster home in New England and ready to meet you.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
