Bear, pending home's Story...
To start the adoption process, please fill out our form on our web site at: www.spokanewienerdogs.org and see the Adopt a Dog/Fee page with more details on how we adopt our dogs. There are a lot of questions answered on our site and personality details below about each dog.

Dogs listed here are still available for adoption and will stay listed until we find them the right homes with our adoption paperwork all finished. Thanks.

Please indicate which dog you are interested in on the form. You can also view our adoption contract sample there as well and read about our adoption process like site visits and paperwork needed to adopt.

There is an adoption fee of $150 for this dog. No phone calls or emails please. Please see our web site for details.

Bear came to the rescue because of a divorce. He is a very sweet old man who is very obese and should weigh about 25 pounds or less but he is around 35 pounds right now. Bear Rug is on a diet and we will help folks to continue that diet once he is adopted. Bear is now 12 so he has some good years left. UPDATE: He is losing weight nicely on a diet and I saw him running the other day. He is becoming a whole new boy already while on his diet.

He came in with nasty teeth but we have enough donations to get his teeth cleaned in early January and if adopted soon I will send enough pain meds home with him until he can get to his vet appointment. That teeth cleaning will be included in the cost of his adoption fee plus his rabies when we see the vet at that time.

We have now caught up on his other shots, trimmed his long nails, given him a bath and a trim from when I took these photos and just working on making him move to he still can lose some weight. This guy was a neglect case but he is still amazingly sweet and liking people.

One more thing, he is deaf as a post but we are teaching him hand signals and he is learning quickly. He does bark to come inside or when the fridge door opens so we are also teaching him a shut off switch for that as well. Not hearing is not slowing this guy down at all.

Bear loves belly rubs and is an amazingly charming boy. He likes every dog, cat and person he meets. This dog is beyond sweet and kind.

Do you have some time to walk a sweet older dog and continue his diet? He is housebroke and will head to the door when he wants out. And he is also crate trained.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bear, pending home, a Spokane Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Spokane, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Spokane.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Spokane already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Spokane breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Spokane paves the way for another one to be saved.
