This very special boy is Balboa! Balboa has a had a long and bumpy road thus far. He was found nearly dead on a someone's lawn in a local community and taken to the shelter. He had some wounds and was very thin. Unfortunately, Balboa was also diagnosed with heartworm disease. Lilo's Promise rescued Balboa, found him a foster home and started him on his heartworm treatment. Everything was going along just great - His treatments were finished (he will need a wellness X-ray in August just to be sure all of the heartworms are gone forever) and the skies looked sunnier. Then we noticed that Balboa's one pupil remained dilated. After trips to several vets and specialists, we are now in the process of scheduling an MRI for Balboa to try to determine what may be going on. In the meantime, his time ran out in his foster home so not only does he have a medical issues but he is living in a kennel. Our volunteers take Balboa out every single day for playtimes and cuddles. He is a sweet guy who could really use an experienced foster to hold his paw during whatever may be next on his journey. For more information about Balboa, please contact our Foster Coordinator Heather at All expenses, including food and medical, are paid for by Lilo's Promise!

About Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue is a group of dedicated volunteers who provide love, veterinary care, obedience training, socialization and safe housing for homeless animals. Our focus is high risk pit bull type dogs in our local shelters. Pets taken into LPAR will stay with us until their forever homes are found, no matter how long that may be. We believe no matter what the breed, background, age, or disability, all animals deserve a second chance or as we prefer to say, "A new beginning". Each animal we rescue has a special place in our hearts. Our goal is to make the best match possible for both the pets and those looking to adopt a new family member. Lilo’s Promise conducts community educational programs emphasizing the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training, bite prevention for children, BSL, and the joy of adopting a homeless dog or cat.

Lilo’s Promise is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization
