Dorothy is a 9-10 year old ginger colored houndette that was left by her family. I'm hoping they were aiming for a better life for her than they could provide as she is perfect in every way! She uses the dog door to go outside to do all her "outdoor" business. She learned the dog door immediately and has never had an accident since she has been in my home. Dorothy gets along with her sister and brother hound but we wouldn't know how she feels about cats. Her brother, Duke, gets a little growly every once in a while with her, letting her know she is in his space and she immediately backs off respectfully. She has quickly learned her place. Dorothy did show a little anxiety when I would leave for work in the mornings and would howl for a few minutes. All of that has subsided now that she knows I am coming back home and has no worries. Even though she is almost 10 years old, she loves to chase squirrels in the backyard and plays "basset 500" with her brother and sister, very active for an older gal. I think Dorothy would be great in a home where she was the only child, perhaps as a constant companion to retirees or simply someone who desires the greatest company of all; the company of a hound! Dorothy also loves children and does very well with other hounds, either way, she is amazing. I can't say enough about Dorothy. She loves to cuddle with you on the couch in the evening and loves her belly rubbed. She just wants to be near you. Dorothy is now accepting applications for furever humans!

About Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia

About Our Rescue Group...

Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia is a non-profit, volunteer effort to save abandonded and mistreated Basset Hounds. Our rescue effort began in 1991, and we have rescued over 2,500 Bassets since that time. Orginally privately funded by two volunteers, today BHRG is a non-profit charitable organization which exists solely on donations.

Orphaned Bassets are held in foster care until permanent, loving homes can be found.

Adoptions are held each weekend of the month at locations in metro-Atlanta. See our website at www.bhrg.org for specific dates and locations.

A $200 adoption donation is required for dogs under 8 years of age. A $100 donation is required of dogs 8 years old and older. This donation defrays the cost of shots, spay/neuter, heartworm treatments, and other vet costs.
