My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DANNY is a 8 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 50 pounds. Though he doesn’t look it Danny is 8 years old. He is friendly and likes to be petted. He is not interested in playing with toys, he ignores them but then he may not have had any before. He likes attention and his tail starts wagging when you talk to him. Danny is an easy going dog who besides a walk or two a day would enjoy a couch to lay on. Good with other dogs, he barks at them when he first meets them but then is fine. He knows sit, down and come, and we are working on other commands. He pulls some on lead and is better with an Easy Walk Harness. He is house trained and does not need a crate. Danny’s story – Danny was given up to the shelter after his owner died and none of the relatives could take him in. After his owner died he stayed in the home with a relative going over to let him out and feed him in the morning and a neighbor used to bring him in and feed him at night while they tried to find him a new home. None of the relatives could take him and the neighbor brought him home to see if he would fit in. They have a 2 year baby who scared Danny when she was around him, when she tried to get near he would get up and go to another room. Neighbor contacted a relative who came and got Danny and brought him to the shelter who contacted us. Neighbor told us no cats Danny was taught to chase them out of the yard by his owner. This was verified by the way he reacted when the vets cat wandered by him at the clinic. He is approved for kids 10+

Update (01/27): Danny is an affectionate, mellow and gentle sweetheart who wants nothing more than to keep you company. He is happy to do whatever you want to do, be it going for a drive, watching a movie, taking a nap. Danny is not a morning person and enjoys sleeping in until about 8-10am. He loves to sniff around outside and is very easy to walk given his small size. Danny should be the only dog in the house as if he is living with another dog he may get jealous. He is a very low maintenance dog who does not: counter surf; jump; whine for food; or disturb anything in the house. He barks when he meets other dogs in the street but settles down quickly as long as they are not in his face. He will chase cats and squirrels.

Update (01/16) : Danny likes to lie in the sun, hold your hand and snuggle against you on the couch. He stops, drops and rolls when Foster Dad comes home from work and waits for a belly rub. He likes to sit next to foster brother and help with homework. Danny likes to sleeps in until about 8:30-9 am. He will tap at the door when he needs to go out. He loves to sniff around the neighborhood during walks. He is a mellow, low maintenance sweetheart.

Update (01/14): Danny is a little bundle of love. He is a (young) 8 yr old neutered male. He is very sweet, friendly, mellow, easy-going, low maintenance, quiet (no whining or barking!), and house trained. He likes to sleep late and was content to let foster mom sleep in until 9am this weekend. He is very easy to walk as he only weighs 50 pounds and does not pull. We've been told he likes to chase squirrels and cat, though there has not been any opportunity to confirm that given the snow and ice this week. He previously lived with two other dogs and got along fine, though he would also do well as an only dog. He enjoys a couple of walks per day and playing in the yard, but most of all he loves to snuggle near his foster family, either by their side on the couch or sitting by/on their feet. He was left alone in the crate for a few hours and did fine, though he probably does not need to be crated. He has not disturbed anything in the house and does not counter surf or whine for food. He takes treats in slow motion and very gently.

Update (12/27: Just checking in to let you know Danny is doing fine, he is super sweet and well behaved. He’s housebroken, loves to be out in the yard, needs some help walking straight on the leash which I suspect will probably happen as he settles down while we walk but he doesn’t pull unless he sees a squirrel….he seems to really like squirrels and chasing squirrels but he can be redirected easily. Fortunately most of the neighborhood squirrels know that Lucy also suffers from this affliction so they stay out of our yard! He seems to not eat out of bowl at all even if you put it in the crate with him but will eat out of your hand or on the floor….so that’s what we’ve been doing. He is fine with treats though—super gentle when he takes them and knows his sit and we’ve been sneaking his medication via PB on a little bread. He likes to play but he will also chill out with you and snuggle, he sleeps well through the night and hopefully we aren’t spoiling him for his forever family because the couches and beds here with the exception of Lucy’s room (aka the Diva suite!) are fair game…which he has taken advantage of. The three dogs seem to have mostly figured out their pecking order, I think he’d do well both as an individual dog or with a dog friend. He’s a bit submissive and every once in a while still cowers when you talk with him, mostly when you talk at him and aren’t at his level. He’s met our next door neighbor’s daughter who is like the dog whisperer of the fence line (all our dogs have always sat awaiting some loving and pets from her and now so does Danny!
