COURTESY POST: Miles is a happy pit-bull terrier and Queensland Heeler mix about 5 years old. He is healthy, with no medical issues except he is overweight and could stand to lose a few. He is extremely friendly to men and women, but would do best in a home without young children, as he gets nervous around younger ones who pull his tail, etc. Older children would be fine. He has loves to chase moving things such as cars, running horses, swings, runners, running cats, so would only do well in a home with cats that are used to dogs and would not run from him. Given a proper introduction Miles loves to play with other dogs. However, he will not share his resources like bones, food, or tennis balls with another dog. He is an extreme ball dog and water dog (LOVES the water!). He rides well in the car or truck. He is fantastic in the house (housebroken, no separation anxiety, non-destructive). Recalls verbally on and off leash under any circumstance. Pulls on a leash with a normal collar, but cruise control on a pinch collar. He is OK with horses, but would chase them if they ran. He exhibits the traits of a Heeler more than the other things he is mixed with, especially the nipping, chasing thing. Currently living outside in a 10 x 10 ft kennel, but typically has the full run of the entire property during the day. During cold or stormy nights, he sleeps inside the house.

About Redwood Pals Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Redwood Pals Rescue was formed to keep the euthanasia rate low at our local county shelter which is a kill facility. We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to support rescue and adoption efforts of animals that are at risk in the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.

Some of the things we do:
* rescue animals in danger of being euthanized at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter

* place rescued animals into permanent adoptive homes;

* facilitate transportation of rescue animals to out-of-area rescue organizations, fosterers, and adoptive homes;

* train/rehabilitate rescue animals to facilitate their placement into permanent adoptive homes;

* to provide temporary foster of shelter animals with medical needs to facilitate their placement into permanent adoptive homes;

* provide educational outreach to promote the adoption of shelter and rescue animals as pets;

* improve the quality of life for animals at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter;

* encourage and facilitate proper veterinary care including vaccinations, spaying and neutering;

We always need: Donations! which can be sent to our P.O. Box or through Razoo. Fosters! We do not have a shelter of our own but instead rely on kennel space for our rescue dogs at the shelter (when it isn't full) or with our network of foster homes. We sometimes have to emergency board dogs to save their lives. We would rather have them in a foster home. Volunteers! if you are interested in volunteering let us know. We are a small group and could always use more help.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Call or email if you would like to meet any of our rescue animals and we can make arrangements.

Our Adoption Process...

We have an adoption application and require an home visit and references. Our adoption fee for dogs is $175 which covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, and other medical treatment. This fee can be negotiated depending on circumstances.
