Let me take a moment to stop watching the rooster out my nice big window here at the center to introduce myself! My name is Key and I am the gorgeous tortoiseshell that is usually lounging about in my special spots up front under one of the desks or right in front of the big window here looking out at the landscape.

My long flowing fur is beautiful with some daily brushing but all I ask is to be careful about by back, which has some arthritis that likes to act up occasionally. Torti's are very special cats that are very loyal to their owners. When the time is right I might just have to take over your lap for some attention, and especially some petting right behind my ears. Come on by and meet me because you never know if we may be a pair that is meant to grow old together! Could I hold the "key" to your heart?

Key is a staff favorite, so come down and see her! She's been spayed, chipped, and is up to date on her vaccines.

About BrightSide Animal Center

About Our Shelter...

BrightSide is a high-save shelter focused on sheltering and rehabilitating animals, and equipping them for success in their next home. We believe that every animal who enters through our back receiving door deserves the chance to leave through our front door with a secure future.

We are able to offer our assurance that we will strive to place every animal that comes to us into an adoptive home or into one of our foster homes for rehabilitation or into one of our fospice (foster hospice) homes. So far we have been able to back up our assurances with placement of nearly all of the animals that have come to us.

Through dedicated staff and tremendous volunteer effort who believe in “no kill shelter” principles, we’re proud to have a save Donate High Save Sheltering rate that’s one of the highest in the country (98% for dogs and cats combined, in 2012), with a responsible admissions policy that doesn’t select for the most adoptable. Indeed over half of the animals who arrive at BrightSide enter the shelter as strays, through contracts with the County and City.

BrightSide is a private organization, a 501c3 non-profit. We are a community shelter — we are not municipally funded. We receive no direct city, county or state revenue beyond limited boarding fees for strays, or occasional rescue situations. Nor do we receive funding from the Humane Society of the United States or the Humane Society of Central Oregon. BrightSide’s funding comes from memberships, adoption revenues, grants, donations and income-producing operations such as our recycling programs, and thrift store.

While we work hard to have one of the highest save rates of any shelter in the U.S., a dedicated volunteer base helps also ensure one of the lowest costs per animal of any shelter in the state. Our small paid staff works tirelessly for very low wages without benefits. We make heavy use of invaluable volunteer time. We always look for better ways to purchase all of the supplies needed to take care of our animals, both medically and physically.

Our purpose is clear: to save the animals that come to us, to find adoptive forever homes for them, and to uphold the promise that we make to every community member who asks us for reassurance that we won’t kill these animals.
If you, too, believe that high save is important, that each animal is worth saving and deserves our best efforts to find a safe and loving home, donate to BrightSide Animal Center. Donate money, time, goods for our thrift store, or supplies for the animals. Become a Member of BrightSide. As a BrightSide Member, you are showing your support of the high-save philosophy that we have embraced. You are showing that you value the lives of these animals that come through our doors. Without your support, we face reduced services. Let’s not let that happen in this community that cherishes its animals.

Our Adoption Process...

Successfully adopting a dog depends in large part upon matching the dog’s needs with your family’s needs and lifestyle. A BrightSide adoption coordinator will meet with you to discuss your wants and needs. Then you’ll be introduced individually in our meet-and-greet room to dogs that might be an appropriate match for you. You will be asked to fill out the pet adoption application form. If you are renting your home, the approval of your landlord is required.
Cats, rabbits and other small animals available for adoption are waiting to meet you at the shelter during our normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come by and see who strikes your fancy.
