ADOPTED ON 12-20-14 - Annie is spayed, female, golden retriever /Great Pyrenees mix, she is approximately 48 lbs. She was found with her seven beautiful puppies, where they were dumped and abandoned at an old house in Louisiana. Annie stood watch and tended to her puppies the best she could without being provided with any type of consistent nourishment. Even when she was starving, she made sure her puppies ate first. Someone eventually picked up 6 of the 7 puppies, who were adopted into loving homes, but Annie remained with the 7th puppy. She refused to leave him... Finally, the 7th puppy was rescued and Annie wandered over to an elderly woman's home in search of food and water. That is when her foster mother got the call. The first thing Annie's foster mother noticed was her sweet soulful eyes and how she rested her head on the back of the seat in the car onto her shoulder as if to say " Thank You" She said the song "Sweet Annie" began to play on the radio and it was as if the words were speaking to her. Her foster mother vowed that Annie would stay with her until she was placed in the loving forever home she so much deserves! Due to being exposed to the harsh conditions of the Louisiana swampland's and ruthless mosquitoes, Annie is heartworm positive. Her foster mother says she shows no outward signs, and her case is mild. She is currently being treated with Ivomectin on the 1st and 15th of the month, as well as taking flea medication. Annie is up to date on all vaccinations.

Annie is a very loving dog with a carefree spirit who loves to run and play. She enjoys fetch although she doesn't always bring the ball back. She can easily be taught to bring the ball back, but this silly girl is so charming she often entices everyone to join in her own version of the game, as she is having so much fun! She is very friendly and loves everyone she meets. Great with kids and loves playing with them! She currently lives with 16 other dogs. She barks at cats and small animals through the fence, but her foster mother is confident that with proper introduction she could certainly live in a home with a cat. Annie has a moderate activity level and needs a fenced yard to be able to play in. She is still working on her housetraining skills as she was not exposed to being a house dog until recently. She does well in crate and walks well on a leash. Annie loves going for rides in the car! She has no known fears or food issues.

Annie would do well in almost any family. This love bug, just adores her people as well as fellow canines! A fenced in yard with lots of room to run and play is helpful but not necessary as long as she get daily exercise. Her new owner should be someone who will make play time a daily ritual, and provide her with the daily exercise she needs, as well as provide her with the proper medical care. At night they would provide her a dog bed of her own to curl up in at their feet, or welcome her to sit on the couch next to them, and assure her she will never be abandoned again. There is a possibility that her new home could include a cat, provided the cat is dog savvy and introductions are done properly. Do you have room in your home and your heart for sweet Annie? One look into her eyes and you know she will be grateful forever!

HISTORY:
Patricia is a foster in LA and rescues dogs because she can’t turn her back on them. She opens her home and heart to as many dogs as she can, loves them, gets them healthy and then looks for homes on her own. She never looks for gas receipts or any kind of reimbursement except one – take good care of the dog she gives to you and she worries about every one of them. This is the amazing story of courage, bravery and the purest form of love that enabled a dog and Patricia to face the difficulty that they needed to overcome for one of those dogs.

It was Patricia’s day off when she got a call about yet another dog needing to be re-homed. The caller was not going to wait and told her that it had to be done right away...of course!!! The caller told her the same story of many of the rescued dogs in the south...someone dropped off a pregnant mama dog at their home; the home owners were kind and allowed the momma to stay and have the puppies, however, now the pups were 5 to 6 weeks old, wouldn’t stay in their box and were making a mess on the porch. She asked the caller for pictures to post and posted pictures of the mom and pups on Facebook immediately.

Patricia promised the caller that she would call her the next day, when she did, no one would answer; she left her name and number and told her that she was returning the call about the mom and pups. Then Patricia received a response from her FB post, it was a call from an older lady from the community that she had known for many years. She said that someone she knew had seen her post on Facebook and she began asking about the dogs. Patricia was excited thinking that maybe she wanted one and that at least one of them would have a home but her hopes were soon crushed, she went on to report that sadly, the mother dog and her pups had been put out and abandoned someplace close to her house. Someone picked up all the puppies but one and promised to find homes for them---one pup ran under the house and wouldn’t come out—the pup was a male dog.

The mother dog, now affectionately named Annie, refused to leave her pup that she knew was there. Soon the pup was caught and taken into foster care, sadly, this left Annie alone and unwanted. The older lady convinced Annie to go with her to her house where she began to feed her until Patricia could be reached. The sweet older lady probably would have kept Annie but due to health reasons, she couldn’t do so. So when that call came in that Annie had been left behind and was cold, wet and very confused because her pups were all gone, Patricia loaded up and went to get her...what she saw when she arrived was the sweetest confused and sad face who just desperately wanted to be loved and have a home of her own. Annie was very thin from nursing and caring for all the 7 babies she had raised. Her thin matted hair had lost its shine and she desperately needed a bath and some nutrition and vet care. Patricia saw a very sweet soul with a determination to make the best out of life, a fine example of what it means to not let bad days ruin the good ones, a priceless jewel under the ragged white coat; she felt right away that this was a special dog!

As Patricia walked toward Annie with a leash in her hand, she saw the fear in her eyes as she humbly bowed her head. She already knew that the leash meant that she was getting hauled off and dumped again yet she obediently went with her to the car. She looked at Patricia ever so kind in hopes she would change her mind. As they drove away Annie sat quietly on the seat. After a minute or two... Patricia began to realize that she must hungry and immediately gave her the chicken nuggets that she brought along. Annie ate them ever so gratefully and then leaned over and laid her head against Patricia’s shoulder. As she did, Patricia had just turned on the radio to the Zac Brown Band singing "Sweet Annie". The words were.... "can I stay with you awhile...cause this roads been putting miles on my heart....I've been living in a fantasy...but one day my luck will strike and my bark will lose its bite...... so don’t give up on me....Sweet Annie."

Patricia’s heart could no longer hold what she felt and wiped away tears, she instantly became "Sweet Annie". She hugged her and promised her that she could stay with her for however long it took and that her worries were over—she was going to see to that! Patricia felt that Annie knew somehow that she was rescued and by the time Patricia got home Annie was fast asleep and at perfect peace. After a bath, some real food and some medicines, Annie slept the deepest sound sleep that only comes on that first night after a dog has been rescued and they know it. She soon began to gain her coat luster back. Her beautiful white coat and her weight came back as her milk bag dried up. She was accepted into Rescue Dog Village where she was spayed and treated for heartworms—the treatment takes eight weeks and the dog must be kept quiet in a crate for 90% of the time. She finally got her perfect health status back after she was tested and cleared that she was heartworm negative.

Annie's Adoption Video: There are many untold stories that are similar to Annie that demonstrate the determination and hard work that the southerner’s do daily in order to come together against many odds to help a dog. The list of people that helped Annie is long: from the first family that fed Annie and her pups, Patricia, volunteers with Patrick’s Pals, Facebook activities that passed the word to others, Rescue Dog Village, the donors that helped donate so that Annie could get her HW treatment—all of them contributed to this joyful completion. Due to their efforts, Annie can now have a "happily ever after"! As Annie came down the ramp from her long trip from LA to MA, she was greeted by the son she would not leave and two boys that could not wait to have her sleep with them. The video and the expression on their faces show us that they wrapped her in a warm welcome blanket. It proves that the goodness and giving in this world came pouring out for Annie and that her story touched many of us in a way that made the impossible happen

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!
