My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Higgins here! Yep, that's a dignified name, and I do my best to live up to it, but life is so much fun I do get carried away. I love to bounce across the grass, taking a tumble just to make you laugh. I can whip around and run the other way so fast you gasp in amazement. But then, just as quickly I like to stand with my paws on your knees gazing into your face. And laps! Did I mention how much I love laps---the softer the better I always say.

So how did such an amazing little pooch wind up living with big, smelly bruisers in a rescue kennel? Believe me, no one was more surprised than myself. Here's how it happened. I belonged to the most loving, softest lap in the world. Then one day she went to a place called a "nursing home." Sounded like a good gig to me. But she said I couldn't go with her and that meant I might be headed to a "high-kill shelter", which sounded a bit ominous if you ask me, but no one did. At the last minute she talked Lisa of CARE, Inc. into finding room for me in her kennel. With the bruisers, right. I've been here about a year, which is half of my life so far. It's not so bad. We never miss a meal or flea meds. But unlike most of these bruisers, I have a good home tucked away in my memory. Today (July 28, 2014) Volunteer Gwen took me to her own home for a spa day as she calls it. I got a bath (oh heavens to betsy!!! I had forgotten the pleasure of a warm sudsy bath.) Then I romped on her grass. Showed her my good indoor manners. Sniffed a couple of butts and showed her I can get along with her big dogs if they don't try to take my food. Showed off how much I like men by wagging my tail when her big bearded, bootted, cowboy-hatted husband clucked at me. I hear I made some points with that because so many dogs in rescue kennels are afraid of men. That's another advantage of having known a loving home for my first year. So here I am putting my best paw forward for my spa day photos. If you are on Facebook you can see the public album she posted all about me at https://www.facebook.com/gwen.c.roland/media_set?set=a.1020645781293676.1073741863.100000447912044&type=3
If you can't see the photos, just let Gwen know at gwenroland@gmail.com and she'll send you the photos in an email.
I just know my new lap, my forever lap, is out there somewhere looking for me. Could it be you?
