Mrs. Grey's Story...
Mrs. Grey first came to WAG several years ago when we were called in about three cats that were abandoned in an empty house; their family had moved and left them. We found homes for all of them; Mrs. Grey, who is quiet and timid, went to live with a single woman, and they were a perfect match and spent several happy years together. We got the call in September that the woman had had a terrible accident; could we take Mrs. Grey while things got sorted out? Of course we were happy to. We have fostered Mrs. Grey all fall, in the hope that her owner could recover enough to take her back, but, sadly, her owner still cannot care for Mrs. Grey and has a long recovery ahead of her, so we need to find Mrs. Grey a new home.

This quiet girl is a great companion for a quiet single adult or couple who want a companion. As you may have noticed, "quiet" is the operative word here. If you like to entertain and your front door should be revolving because of the stream of people that come in and out, this is not the cat for you. If you are into knitting, doing puzzles, reading, or watching TV (although she'll watch anything, she's more Downton Abbey than, say, Sons of Anarchy), Mrs. Grey is your girl. She will take a little while to settle in, but when she does, she is undemanding and sweet. She will never like strangers or commotion much, but she is the best companion to share a cozy evening in front of the fireplace. Although she will sleep on your bed at night, she also loves her cuddle bed and hangs out there when she isn't with you. She likes to be petted, which is nice, because she has the most lovely, soft coat, which she keeps pristine. However, she is not the kind of cat who wants constant affection. One thing she loves is her toys, and she is adorable when she plays with them. About 7 or 8 years old, she does fine with mellow dogs but is afraid of other cats. She definitely needs an adult home. Like all WAG animals, Mrs. Grey is spayed and fully up-to-date on her vet care. WAG only accepts applications from New Hampshire residents and from residents of communities in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts that are on the New Hampshire border. If you live in our service area and are interested in applying to adopt Mrs. Grey, a WAG adoption application can be found at

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mrs. Grey, a Weare Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Weare, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Weare.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Weare already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Weare breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Weare paves the way for another one to be saved.
