My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cooper, or "The Best Boy Ever", is the sweetest, easiest foster dog his foster mom has ever had. When he came to our organization, he had to go through a lot of vet care, and he endured it with no problems. He took all of his medicine with no fuss at all.

Cooper is a very sweet and calm beagle boy who was very neglected by his original family. Luckily, a caring neighbor offered to take Cooper and turned him over to HBHR. When he came to us, this sweet boy was very skinny, had double ear infections, a skin infection and was heart worm positive. He also got a nasty case of kennel cough while in boarding.

Our vet treated him for the skin infection and ear infection, and he has also been treated for the heart worms and has put on some weight. He is 3 years old and weighs about 30 lbs. When Cooper first went to his foster home, his coat was dull and unhealthy. After taking fish oil for a little while and eating a good food, his coat is shining and he has filled out. You would never believe that he had once been so pitiful, to see him now!

He is all beagle and loves to eat, especially treats. When he gets a rawhide, he gets so excited he will run in circles. Cooper is a beagle who will be very calm when the people and dogs around him are calm. He can be very energetic and playful when there is a young dog for him to play with, and yet he calms down quickly when playtime is over. He is very respectful of the 15 year old beagle in his foster home, and tolerates being treated like a chew toy by his younger foster sister, Vickie.

Cooper is house trained and has had no accidents. He uses the doggie door, but sometimes wants to have the door opened for him to go in and out. He snuggles close and does not move all night. Cooper is crate trained, but does not need to be crated. He has the run of the house when his foster parents are at work. He has never had an accident, and has never chewed on anything that was not a dog toy. He is also very quiet for a beagle. He barks very seldom. The few times he has barked has been when he was playing.

Like most beagles, Cooper loves to go on walks and gets very excited when the harnesses and leashes come out. He is a slow walker and likes to take his time, smelling everything he can as he walks. He loves to go to the dog park and likes to slowly sniff his way around the park. He can be a little hesitant when he hears a loud or strange noise, and is a little afraid of loud noises such as dog gates that fall over. If a noise scares him, he may be hesitant to walk past the area where the noise was, so he will whine until you come and stand by him; then he will be brave enough to walk past the scary area.

This sweet guy enjoys cuddle time with his foster family. He loves to have a lap to curl up in when it is TV time. He likes to sleep in bed with his foster parents, but will wait to be invited onto the bed before jumping up.

Cooper would probably prefer a home with older children. Young kids dropping things and knocking things over may scare him. He would love a family with another young beagle to play with. This well-behaved beagle is a very sweet and loving dog who is looking for a family to love him and treat him like he deserves. He would make a great addition to a family.
