SweetPea's Story...
My name is SweetPea, and I just arrived at CBR-East! My foster mom says I am very special because I have helped out a lot of people. I am a retired research beagle (that just means I was used in biomedical research), and now I have been given the chance to be adopted as a pet and learn what life outside of a laboratory is really like! My labmates, Maggie and Angelface have come to CBR-East with me. You can learn more about me as I begin to settle into my foster home. The only thing we can tell you for sure right now is that we all only have 1 kidney. (We were used to help in kidney transplant research! Wow!) Just like people, we are expected to live normal and healthy lives with just one kidney, so we hope this makes us even more special in your eyes! We don't need special medications or food or anything - just a loving home to show us what life as a loving housepet can be!

I am a little more hesitant than my labmates, but I am just love for someone to hold and pet me...I am a tiny little thing - less than 20 lbs, and just adorable. I am learning how to be crate trained and housetrained and once I learn about walking on grass and living in a house, I will make someone a WONDERFUL companion!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

SweetPea, a Portland Beagle dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Beagle for sale in Portland, or seeking a Beagle dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Beagle breeders who help with Beagle rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
