My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mango and Mustard are a pair of amazingly gorgeous, cuddly, playful and sweet, daddy and daughter tabbies looking for a loving guardian – preferably together.

This pair was found stray and brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control. They were lucky to have found a wonderful foster home together to start their new life together. Handsome Mustard is guessed to be about two years old and his beautiful daughter Mango is guessed to be about seven months old.

They both share the same bunny-soft fur which makes petting and cuddling so much fun. They also purr and purr which is so encouraging and sweet. They are well-behaved in the home and use their litter box and scratching post like good kitties.

They currently reside in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and live happily with three medium-sized dogs and one other cat. They love to spend their time entertaining each other and then resting on the windowsill or on your lap. Both kitties are very healthy, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines, de-wormed and virus-tested. Their adoption fee of $95 each benefits the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. To meet and possibly adopt Mustard and/or Mango, please contact Kirsten at ktour@hotmail.com or 773-263-3803.

Their history … Sadly, Mango and Mustard didn’t start out life quite so happy. When they were brought to CACC, it was assumed it was a mom with her three tiny babies. They fed Mustard the adult assuming he was a mom nursing babies. However, it didn’t occur to anyone that it was a dad with his young and incapable of nursing. The babies tried nursing and two babies died before Mango and Mustard were transferred to a foster home. Mango, the strongest baby survived 10 days at the shelter without eating. She made up for lost time by eating a lot in her foster home. However, she appeared to have an upper respiratory infection and went back to the vet repeatedly and was prescribed multiple antibiotics. Finally, she was brought to another vet who diagnosed her with a nasal polyp, a growth possibly due to a viral infection she picked up at the shelter. After surgery she is finally healthy and happy. She may always be small and kitten-ish looking due to her challenging kitten-hood. You may also notice that one of Mango’s pupil’s looks larger than the other. That is due to her recent surgery and may return to normal after healing. In any case, it does not in any way change her wonderfully happy quality of life.
