My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who is ready to add delightful Happy-ness to your life in the New Year? This gentle girl has beautiful, soulful eyes that instantly touch human hearts. Her thick, wiry fur is dappled with the colors of a warm turtle mocha, and she loves to snuggle! Even if her people are standing, she cozies in and convinces them to pause & stroke her head. Happy calmly nuzzles her face close, as if to encourage people that she will listen attentively. She prefers conversations or stories to be shared on laps, but she will patiently sit alongside a chair or couch, too.

In a short amount of time, Happy has be-friended the two resident dogs in her foster home, even one that is usually timid around new dogs. Happy makes polite requests to play with them, but if they aren’t interested, she doesn’t persist. She simply finds a toy to chew on or toss in the air, and checks back with them later. Happy has eagerly discovered that even Kong balls bounce in the snow! She has not yet spent time with children or cats.

Thirty-one pound Happy is estimated to be about one year old, so she is an inquisitive girl. She’s intrigued by tempting things like shoes, hanging towels & rugs on the bathroom floor. She cheerfully brings these items to humans to see if they might be curious about them, too. Happy is responding well to reminders of “no” & “leave it”.

She has easily learned how to share a “high five”, and is currently working on her name and “sit”.
Happy sleeps through the night in her crate with no accidents. She is a considerate girl, too. Whether it’s an early-to- rise or a sleep-in kind of day, she adjusts her internal clock, and always greets her foster family with her tail wagging & hugs as soon as the crate door is opened.

Thus far, Happy has only been left in her crate for 3-4 hours while her foster parents are away. She does not appear to be upset when they leave or return.

Happy LOVES to run, leap & tunnel with her nose in the snow! In spite of the recent very cold temps, she’s also been reliable in completing her duties outside. She is taken out on a regular schedule. She is beginning to paw at the door to go outside, too – sometimes for elimination purposes; other times to simply romp in the fenced back yard! Happy has only lived with her foster family for four days, but she’s had no accidents in the house.

She does startle at unexpected noises, and has shown some apprehension when meeting new people, but she calms with hugs & quiet words from her foster parents. This will continue to be addressed as Happy acclimates to new situations.

This beautiful girl would love to find a forever home where her mellow, yet engaging personality & endearing spirit will truly bring Happy-ness! Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.

All dogs are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday January 24, 2015, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
