Here's what the humans have to say about me:
The Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely sweet and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...both breeds are famous for their temperaments, intelligence and extremely loving ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and be very loving with family members and other family pets. Since this breed mix requires a certain amount of exercise and absolutely love being with their people...if a hike or outdoor fun is the order of the day - count them in! These mixes are known to run joyfully and energetically through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines.
Donovan is a beautiful and engaging guy who favors the intellect of the Shepherd while taking on the very engaging qualities of the Golden. He will require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and cottony-soft. As Donovan loses the old coat of his shelter days (as he's given the gift of a great diet), his coat will grow in shining (with his beautiful markings) and less likely for lots of shedding. d
Donovan's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes playmates everywhere he goes. He is social and that means everyone he meets has the potential to become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Donovan's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his body ending in a smile. And if a place is available next to a favorite family member, up Donovan goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Donovan is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of his breeds. At about 4 - 4.5 years old and 37 lbs, Donovan is a great medium size guy who has left puppyish habits behind while still having many, many active years ahead. He seems to have completely left behind the lack of love and committment that made up his early life. Donovan has become a very huggable ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments.
We would like to see Donovan in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's very social and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Beckett would be an exceptional companion for retirees or families with kids 12+ (no tail-pulling or riding on please) who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable and kind guy. Donovan doesn't require another dog to be happy (he really loves his people)...but does enjoy his canine relationships with fun and gentle dogs.
Donovan will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 1/9/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
