My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Dutchess.

I am about 2 or 3 years old.

I am a brindle with merle (blue) colored Great Dane.

I was found on the side of the road. A woman (who picked me up) said I was standing there looking into each car as it drove by, as if my former owner had dumped me off there and I was waiting for them to come back. I was with a male Great Dane. Unfortunately, he was hit by a car and didn't make it. The woman who picked me up was keeping me outside in a pen. I was constantly shivering in the cold. Thankfully, the FFGDR got me as fast as they could.

My foster momma says that you only need to spend one minute with me, to help you realize that I am the sweetest love bug ever! There is not a mean bone in my body. My foster momma can't imagine why anyone would do that to me.

Here is what my foster momma wants me to tell you:

She is house-broken. —— As far as I am concern, the house is still standing. I don’t know why she said I broke the house……

She is crate-trained. —- I don’t know what that means but, the crate is my sanctuary. Especially with a nice, fluffy bed or mattress.

She loves car rides.—— Did someone mentioned car ride?!? I’m ready to go!

She loves to walk on a leash. —— Do I ever!

She will follow you around and then lay at your feet. —— I have to admit, I would prefer the couch and I will try to sneak up. But, my foster momma says a simple “no”. That simple “no” never fails me to obey.

She whines a little if no one is in the room. —— Well, duh! If I can’t see you, I’ll come looking for you!

She gets along with everyone. —— Yep! I get along with other dogs and cats, too!

She’s very playful. —- Not only that, I learn very quickly, too!

If you want to learn more about me, keep reading…..

I do ignore the cats and I really don’t care if they approach me. But, if they run, I will chase them. If they stop and I will stop, too. However, if they hiss at me —— YIKES! I’m going to lay on the floor and be submissive. I sure don’t want any cats mad at me!

I do counter surf but, I have yet to take anything off the counter. I’m just curious what’s on the counter.

I LOVE to do face kisses and I am sweet. If I’m super excited, I will nibble a little so my foster momma is working with me to break that habit.

I do NOT like the cold! If I have to go potty, I will run out, pee very quickly and run back inside the warm house. You might have to push my rear end out of the door if I hesitate to go out in the cold weather.

You can take toys or food away from me with no problem. But, I surely hope you would not do that to me, just for fun. That wouldn’t be nice.

I really do not like to be alone. I’m too scared to be left alone. If you put me in a room alone, I will be heart-broken and cry. If you give me a canine sibling or a human (adult or child), I’d be fine! Otherwise, I will tear out the stuffing out of my dog bed, if I am forced to be left alone.

I did have a litter of pups. There’s a suspicion that the breeder weaned my babies prematurely. That would explain why I had mastitis. Thankfully, medication took care of it.

Medicine treatments took care of ticks, fungus, mastitis and multiple cuts on my paws from being outside in the cold. I am now healthy and safe! Very soon, I will be up to date on vaccinations.
