My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Stella and I am a 3-4 yr. old, tri-colored beagle that weighs approximately 18 pounds. I was rescued from South Carolina and have spent the last 2 weeks in a foster home, just waiting for PABR to have room in their Rescue for me. Well, the transport has been arranged and I will be arriving in NJ on 1-10-15, though I won’t be at Petsmart until the following week. My foster mom has taken such good care of me and she wanted to share some information about me so that I could quickly find my forever home:

“Stella is a VERY sweet, but shy girl; it will take a little while for her to trust a new family, but she really wants to love someone. At first, she will run up to you and then run away, but eventually she will come to you and want to be loved and petted. It took 9 days before she was ready to roll over and enjoy her first belly rub from me! She is jumpy with sudden movements and noises, but is getting better with all these things as time passes. She was afraid of the doggie door at first, but has now mastered it and loves to run in and out with the other dogs.

“Stella likes all dogs and cats. She has spent time with both small and LARGE dogs. She is very still when first introduced to another dog and has NO reaction to them. She does not know how to play and is not interested in stuffed animals or chew toys at this time. She does fine with kids and toddlers and will even let them pet and hold her. She shows NO signs of aggression with anything.

“Stella is 90% housetrained. I say ‘90%’ because I have a doggie door and she can go outside whenever she needs to do her business. She will just have to learn the rules in her new home. She has free roam of the downstairs part of the house with the other dogs and has done great; I have gone out for 4 hours and she has not had any accidents in the house. She sleeps all night on a bed on the floor in my room, but enjoys being on the bed as well. She has whined at the bedroom door a few times to go out, but then she does her business outside and comes back to bed.

“She is walked about 2-4 miles a day and walks well on a leash. She stops to sniff a lot like most beagles, but just a little pull on her harness and she’s up and going again. She rides well in the car without a peep, but sometimes gets carsick because she is nervous and her belly is upset.

“Stella rarely barks, but will "squeak" when she is happy. She is an easy dog and would do well with a family, couple, or single person. She can live with any dog or cat but is a little afraid when the big dogs try to play with her. Her new family just needs to realize that it will take some time for her to warm up and trust them.” Please give Stella a chance. Contact Penny Angels if you would like to adopt Stella!
