Jamie is a happy, affectionate, sweet and playful male Terrier/Poodle mix rescued from the San Bernardino City Shelter. He is about age one-and-a-half and weighs approx. 13 lbs. He has a very soft white and tan wire-haired coat (he will require some brushing and grooming, however, he is a low shedding dog) that gives him a West Highland Terrier look, accentuated by his very expressive brown eyes, adorable stubby legs, and a flared tail that wags almost constantly. Jamie is not aggressive or dominant, and he gets along well with the other two dogs in his foster home (a 55 lb. male Boxer-mix, and an 18 lb. female Beagle-mix), enjoying games of chase, tug-of-war, and wrestling on the floor. He is especially attached to the foster home’s nine-month-old kitten - these two absolutely love playing together, wrestling, and taking turns chasing one another (his perpetual-motion tail is an irresistible cat toy!). There are also three older cats in the foster home, and he is calm and respectful around them when they seem intolerant of his puppy type antics. He seems dog-savvy and has done well meeting dogs that are larger than he is, but we believe his first love is people. A cute thing he does upon greeting someone he already knows or meeting someone new, is he stands up on his short back legs to get his head scratched, then turns around and gently sits on the person’s feet to gaze up at them backwards with his soulful eyes, then rolling on his side to request a belly rub.

On walks, Jamie will sometimes whine or bark at passers-by, but this seems mostly due to his excitement and desire for attention, rather than defensiveness or aggression, and when meeting new people he is quick to wag his tail and lick an offered hand. Jamie enjoys energetic play, but will just as soon nap at his human’s feet, or seek to snuggle up on a lap or couch, or doze on a pet bed nearby. He appears to bond quickly with new people, and likes to be included in the action and the activities, keeping his humans company wherever they go. We feel confident that Jamie can do well in a variety of environments, including households with children, cats, and other dogs, and even as an only-pet in the household as long as he can be included in activities and where he is not left alone for longer periods.

Jamie is house-trained, though for households without dog-door access to the backyard he will need to be allowed out on a regular schedule to prevent accidents. (Potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment.) He seems eager to please and responds well to gentle correction. Jamie is crate-trained, and sleeps fine during the night with no issues, or does well in his crate when he must be left alone for longer periods. However, like many puppies and younger dogs, he will occasionally whine at first when crated especially when his people are out of sight, but he normally quiets down quickly and has not shown any signs of separation anxiety. He walks well on the leash, but does pull when excited by a new person or dog to meet, and would thus benefit from additional leash training. He rides quietly in the car in a travel crate, and after one early bout of carsickness he seems to have adjusted well to car rides. He enjoys chewing on Nylabones and plush toys, but seems indifferent to rawhide chews. He has not demonstrated a tendency to chew inappropriate items, though of course caution is warranted with younger dogs like him as they are often still learning what is okay to chew on and what is not.

The home we seek for Jamie is one where he can hang out with the people on a fairly regular basis, for example, a stay-at-home mom with kids who enjoys taking the dog everywhere as the kids go off to practice and lessons, with trips to the park and other family outings. We do not picture a home for Jamie where everyone in the household has to leave all at once to comply with conventional work schedules and whereby Jamie would be left home to wait out the majority of the day alone. Jamie is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Jamie, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com.
