Lucy's Story...
If you would like more information about Lucy or are interested in adopting her, please send an email to jmvanalstine@gmail.com

My husband and I pulled this little girl from BARC. She was to be euthanized directly rather than be put up for adoption. We saw her alert go out on a rescue site and intervened. Lucy is 8-10 months old and looks like a black retriever. She is likely a retriever mixed with either aussie or german shepherd and lab. She has a very sweet temperament, loves to snuggle, and is very gentle. She trusts very quickly, but is wary of her surroundings and very observant. She has a soft mouth, and is not food possessive. Lucy is very good with other dogs (we have two large dogs, and she is great interacting with them), and is also fine with our indoor cat. She was found as a stray, but is great on leash and behaves very well in the house. She loves belly rubs, napping by the fireplace, watching out the windows, and pulling all of the toys out of the toy bin.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lucy, a Houston Retriever (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever for sale in Houston, or seeking a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Retriever (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Retriever (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
