My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ronny is a big, energetic puppy who loves people. He has no idea of his size but would love to have been born a lap dog. Instead he will just lie his head in your lap hoping to get some extra affection. He really needs a backyard to run around in or at least a couple good walks each day to burn off his puppy energy. Ronny is still growing into his legs and he can be quite comical with his goofy antics. He gets along great with the small dogs and cats in the home but needs time to warm up to strange dogs outside the home. Overall he is just a big, friendly puppy that needs some further training and socialization. Ronny is approximately one to two years old and currently weighs 52 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Ronny is a handsome, tall dog that would love nothing better than to fit in your lap. He loves attention and will always bring you a toy to try and get you to play with him. I love how gentle he is with the other dogs in the home but overall he is a big clumsy puppy with lots of puppy energy. He loves going for walks but having come from a rural area he was a little jumpy with passing cars but overall he isn't shy of anything and doesn't seem to have any real fears. He is great with people of all ages and is happy to make friends with anyone who comes into the home especially if he thinks he can convince them to cuddle or have a tug with him and his toy.

He didn't seem to know much in the way of commands when he first came to us but he is smart and eager to learn and has picked up on thing fairly quickly. Overall he has pretty good manners in the home and as he listens well he is quick to respond if you correct him. He will sometimes try to mooch a little when we are eating in the living room but he corrects easily and really doesn't get into anything in the home that he shouldn't. He has never chewed anything except his own toys but because he is a big strong boy he does destroy toys that aren't meant specifically for a big dog. We found giving him some deer antlers keeps him happy. He is fully house trained and will let you know by pacing by the door when he needs to go out. We don't know about crate training as we don't feel the need to crate a dog that has just come from a pound where he sat in a cage for months, unless we really need to and Ronny really doesn't need to be crated. He can be fully trusted to be left in the home with no worries when you are away.

Since coming to stay with us Ronny has learned a lot. He now knows some basic commands such as "sit", "shake a paw" and "down". I think anyone that is willing to continue working with Ronny will find that he is very smart and learns quickly. He seems to know what is expected of him in the home and is generally very quiet unless there is a reason to bark. He is pretty good on leash but will still pull so further leash training would be a good idea.

Ronny loves going for walks but he can be a little daunting with other dogs and will need some further socialization in this area. With the dogs in our home he is totally fine but it seems with strange large male dogs he needs a slower, proper introduction. He exhibits anxiety related issues with other bigger dogs which may take some time to work on and to help build his confidence so there is no reason for him to feel that he can't share. We find with many dogs that come from a pound or shelter, it takes them some time to learn that there will always be enough food, enough love, enough toys, etc. This usually does wear off if handled correctly and with helping the dog to build confidence with himself. With people he is totally the opposite and there is never an issue with taking things from him, he doesn't play rough or overly mouth when playing. With people including strangers, he thinks they are all his best friends.

Ronny will need a home where he has room to run and play or where he can get a couple of really good walks in each day. Once he has the opportunity to get enough exericse, he is very calm and relaxed in the home. He would probably do best with someone that is dog savvy and that will make a commitment to continue his training and socialization. He is a lovely, loving boy that would do well in just about any family situation but older children that would enjoy playing with him would be great. He also enjoys the company of another dog in the home and is fine with smaller dogs.

If you think you could give Ronny a good home to call his own, please submit an application for consideration.
