My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Boone.

I am a 4 years old male (neutered) Harlequin Great Dane.

I had a pretty rough life and I was very sick with an embedded collar. Thankfully, the Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue came to rescue me.

Being in a home where someone shows me love and I have a warm bed and regular meals, suits me...to the point, I get very, very upset when my foster mommy and daddy leave the house. I started to escape out of my crate. For my safety my foster mommy and daddy now use clips to secure my crate because they don't want to see me hurt myself anymore. Now I just pant and drool...a lot until they come home and are in my sight again!

Because of my separation anxiety, we temporarily tried some medication hoping it would make me feel better and not stress so much. But...I guess the medication can cause different side effects in dogs and it made me very grouchy. At this point I was making regular visits to the vet...I LOVE riding in the car even if it is to go to the vet. At one point my foster mommy took me in because of a lump that popped up on my rib cage. It turned out to be an infection but they took an xray and what they saw shocked them all...there was a toy in my tummy! This started to explain my anxiety...I was only trying to tell my foster mommy and daddy that I was sick and had a toy in my tummy for months and months now. Once the toy was out...I felt so much better and loved my foster mommy and daddy even more...and the vet!

Now they tell me I have something called heart worm and have to be treated for that too. I hope that makes me feel 100% again because I can be a little grouchy still and I still miss my foster mommy and daddy when they leave the house...especially my foster mommy...she is my favorite.

Since my tummy has been feeling better, I now LOVE to eat...everything and anything I can find. This keeps my foster mommy and daddy on their toes. I have been a lot better about eating "things" but I will steal food off the counter. I look forward to meal time and can hardly wait...I try telling my foster mommy and daddy that until they finally give me my food. They tell me to be quiet but I am only trying to tell them how hungry I am and how appreciative I am that they are feeding me yummy food.

I live with several foster bothers and sisters both big and small. I could care less about any of them...even that fluffy thing they call the cat. Every once in a while when my foster siblings decide to chase him I will too. But since I don't feel well I don't like to play in the Great Dane games that they like to play. I would much rather just be close to my foster mommy instead of my foster siblings. She has this wonderful ability to wrap her arms around me, comfort me, and tell me how much she loves me. I find that awesome! I’m sure you’d understand that I just prefer to be next to you, rather than go outside chasing other dogs in my backyard.

When I go to sleep at night I dream about my forever family. I dream of having a mommy and/or daddy that will be home with me most of the time or can take me to work. I dream of a mommy and daddy that can show me boundaries and teach me not to guard them...and to teach me that when they lift their arms, jump around, dance, etc. they are not going to hurt me. For that reason I don't think I would like siblings that are young and rowdy...I am a pretty calm guy that just wants a calm life. At least one canine sibling would be nice too and would help comfort me when you do have to leave. I like routines the best and schedules where I learn to predict when my mommy and daddy will be home. I might even do okay at daycare as long as they understand I would want some space and just a human to keep me company during the day. I do bond very hard and sometimes I feel the need to protect that person (right now that is my foster mommy) so when my foster daddy wants me to move from her...I can get a little grumpy and yell at him. I need a mommy and daddy that understands me and will be patient with me. In return, I promise to love you more than anyone ever has.

MEDICAL UPDATE: Boone will begin heart worm treatment at the beginning of February and will have approximately 3 months of treatment/recovery before he is ready for his forever family. But he would love to have one waiting on him when he is ready...so please don't delay or hesitate to apply today!
