My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*Local Adoption Only..within 1.5 hours of Beachwood, Ohio* Kirby is a 10lb, male, 1.5 year old, Yorkshire Terrier who was dumped at a doggy daycare when his family no longer wanted him. This precious boy is settling in at his foster home and doing very well! He loves to run around and explore and share his love by jumping into your lap. His original foster home had children which didn't seem to please him (so no children under 13 for Kirby) but he happily greets adults. He is learning that not everyone will hurt him. With new people, he has that 'yikes, don't hurt me' jumpiness when you go to pet him but he quickly overcomes that within minutes. Kirby loves his people and makes a great lap dog! He's not barky and he's not a watch dog. He would rather just sit on your lap and be comfortable. At first, Kirby was a little unsure of dogs with a higher level of energy. If another dog was trying to hog 'mom's' attention in an active way, Kirby would nip at him. Most dogs ignored him and he would stop and now, he does not exhibit that behavior and he was redirected on how to politely interact. In a new home, however, a reactive, intolerable dog may over-correct his behavior and therefore, he is restricted to a home with well tempered dogs. We wouldn't want him to get hurt. His behavior, after all, is a simple lack of socialization and he will quiver and run away if a dog corrects him. He has no aggressive bones in his body at all !! It's hard not to fall in love with Kirby. He really just wants to be loved and show love! If you have the right home for Kirby, we welcome your application! other notes: - Kirby is not the biggest fan of crates but is perfectly ok with be gated into a restricted area. - Kirby is working on his house-training and responds when you 'catch him' before he lifts a leg. He knows to stop it.. but in a new home, I would expect him to have an urge to mark so he'd have to be watched or put him in a diaper for a couple days until he learns where the outside is. All Dogs Unlimited Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and are given a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Upon adoption, all vet records and any current medications are provided to the adopter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application located at http://www.dogsunlimitedrescue.org/Adopt.html THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN ADOPTION NOR DOES IT OBLIGATE YOU TO ADOPT. Multiple applications are accepted for any available pet and a home is chosen that is the best match between the available pet and the potential furever family. Your application will be processed as quickly as possible and if approved, a home visit would be scheduled. No adoption is final until an Adoption Agreement is presented and agreed to by both parties. Our goal is to find the right match of our dogs to their new family so all involved are furever happy! Questions: email adopt@dogsunlimitedrescue.org And THANK YOU for considering a rescue dog for your family!
