My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley sat in a lonely shelter for 1 1/2 years while potential adopters walked right by him (did they even smile??). He is not one of those dogs jumping up on the fence begging for you to take him home. Instead, Harley was afraid...and he still is. He is about 3-4 years old and obviously, wasn't wanted in the first place and then spent the last 18 months being dismissed. It's his time to shine now! He is being treated like a king in a foster home, trying to acclimate to being in a warm, healthy place instead of laying on a cement floor in a crowded facility. Harley is HOUSE-TRAINED, CRATE-TRAINED, GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS AND CATS and only barks when other house-mates are barking! He is enjoying his new found freedom and being a beagle/basset (a very scent-oriented breed), a FENCED YARD is HIGHLY recommended. This will allow Harley to run and play while also being safe; a freedom he has certaintly earned! Harley is shy with humans since he doesn't know us very well so a home with another dog to mimic would work best for him. He also needs a home with a patient mommy and daddy that will allow HIM the time to take the steps forward in bonding...without the pressure of young children, for example, trying to force him to love them (an action that would only result in more fear); hence the requirement of 'no small children'. He is currently learning how to walk on a leash and is learning some basic commands. Harley is very submissive and does not possess one, single aggressive bone in his body. Given time, he will forget his lonely, orphaned past, bond with a furever family and become a confident boy and TERRIFIC family pet! Our 'dream' home (in the perfect world) would also be a home that did not have to crate Harley all day long without a break since this is exactly how he has spent much of his life thus far. A positive change would be nice for this beatiful boy! Harley deserves to have his ears flap in the wind & enjoy life as a beagle/bassett should !! If you have the right home for Harley or have questions to see if you really are his family match, contact us at gmbella@sbcglobal.net or complete an adoption application at http://www.dogsunlimitedrescue.org/applications.htm
