Rufus is a male Shih Tzu mix approximately 2 years in age. He is a nice sturdy size, weighing in at 16 pounds full grown. His coat is a pretty brindle color with shiny, silvery highlights on his head and legs. Rufus has been professionally groomed and is low/non-shedding. He is a super friendly, affectionate dog who will roll over readily for a belly rub as soon as he gets to know you. Its his favorite trick and we laugh every time he does it. Rufus is excellent with other dogs and likes to romp around the yard with his doggie buddies. He will do best in a home with another dog that he can pal around with. Although he is completely blind, Rufus does an amazing job navigating his way around, brave and as perky as can be. He likes to play and is gentle and sweet. He goes up and down stairs, and walks like a champ on leash. Rufus is a polite and quiet car rider and loves to be with the people he knows and trusts. He has a very affectionate, loving heart and is loyal and devoted. His sense of hearing is highly developed and he appears to know where everyone is at all times. You can get up as quietly as you possibly can and Rufus will still hear you. Rufus is willing and eager to please, he comes when he's called, and he takes treats very gently from your hand. As you can tell by his pictures, Rufus is missing one eye, but that is only part of his story. Rufus was surrendered to the shelter in an apparent state of neglect. His missing eye had been poked out and we subsequently had our vet surgically remove what was left and fix it closed. Upon further examination we discovered a few other things about Rufus. Rufus is blind in his remaining eye due to some sort of trauma. He has old fractures in both back legs that have since healed and he walks and runs well with no pain or obvious limping. For some incomprehensible reason a few of his teeth appear to have been purposely cut off. Despite his miserable and likely unimaginable abusive past, Rufus remains the most darling, loving, sweet animal you would ever want to meet. If you have ever doubted the capacity for forgiveness in animals, please come meet Rufus. Rufus is a true rescue, a shining star, and most deserving of a better life. If you are looking for a special dog that will grab your heart and who you will remember for the rest of your life, Rufus is your guy. Rufus is healthy and is ready for his new forever loving home today!
Rufus’s adoption donation is $250 (*TAX DEDUCTABLE). He has been NEUTERED, MICROCHIPPED, VACCINATED, DEWORMED, DEFLEAED and PROFESSIONALLY GROOMED. Also included is his collar with ID, harness, leash, folder with all of his records, a great PETCO coupon book, and a fun goodie bag with toys, etc.
Rufus is being fostered by Pet Match Rescue Foster Volunteer, Mary B. and is ready for his forever home.
