Chief is a "special needs" dog. He is very selective in his dog and human friends. Chief loves to play but has issues trusting strangers out of fear. He seems to distrust women, but may be able to be integrated into a home with a smaller female dog. He would not be good with children or cats. A potential adopter would need to come to the Shelter to work with Chief at the Shelter repeatedly and develop a bond with him first. If you think you might be willing to invest the time to do that, you are welcome to meet Chief. You must check in with front desk staff to let them know that you are here to meet Chief, and a kennel worker will be assigned to help you.

Please do not stick fingers into Chief's kennel or spend too much time at his gate if he appears anxious. In his case, a wagging tail is a sign of anxiety.

Chief is sponsored by Erin Lewis. Thank you, Erin, for your generous donation in honor of Chief!

About Humane Society of Pulaski County

About Our Shelter...

The mission of the Humane Society of Pulaski County is to rescue, care for and find homes for abandoned, abused, homeless and unwanted animals; to reduce suffering of animals; and to reduce the number of homeless animals through adoption, spay/neuter, and through education.

The Humane Society of Pulaski County provides access to low-cost, healthy, inoculated, sterilized animals to people seeking to adopt animals as pets only. Adopters are screened to see if they can provide the basics of care for the animals, proper housing, and continued veterinary maintenance; and have no history of animal abuse or irresponsible ownership.

The Humane Society is a private no-kill shelter, supported solely by donations, fund-raisers, bequests and grants. We receive no city, county or state funding, nor are we affiliated with any other organization. We have been rescuing animals since 1946, and have been in our present building since 2000.
