My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Everyone – My Name is Pete!
I am a Nordic Labrador Mix that was rescued from a reservation in Northern Quebec where there is an over population of dogs and so before they started a mass cull some very kind volunteers came down with their trucks, trapped many of the street strays (one of them was ME!) and brought me back to a shelter and that is where I met my foster mama! After a month and a half long stay at the shelter one day this fabulous lady pulled up and said, “Petie, I am your foster mama now!” We hopped into her car and away I went with her to join the CAA Rescue family in foster care.

Boy-OH-Boy was I happy! I got a bath and dinner and snuggles all on my first night in foster care.
I don’t think I ever slept so well my whole life!!!

I am clean in the home – I had one accident the first night but since then I do all my business outside. Accidents the first 48 hours are pretty normal though; anyway that is what my foster mama told me… she said the excitement of the day, coupled with my nerves of being a new place with new people and not knowing where the door is to go out makes for an accident. Now that I figured everything out I am clean as a whistle

Being a Nordic street rescue I am a little nervous with new situations and people but being a Labrador you can make me happy and forget everything with a yummy treat; I am quite food motivated! That could be the lab in me talking or it could be the starving Nordic street dog in me talking… I have not decided yet. I am mainly nervous around men, especially those with big booming voices but those other men who like to sit on the floor with me and pet me and talk to me and of course give me yummy treats I am quite friendly with them.
So my new family will have to be patient with me

I am only learning now how to walk on a leash and while I do not pull I do zig zag everywhere; trying to smell everything so I need some help to learn how to be a little politer on the leash but right now it does make for interesting walkie times! Again the whole leash thing is new to me as I never even knew one existed before but I have come to realize that I really do like my walks very much so my new family should be avid walkers and active people.

Right now as I learn all about this new world and work towards becoming an awesome canine citizen I should not be with children under the age of 10 years old. While I absolutely adore people and am especially a lady’s man I have displayed some possession of bones in the home with other resident doggies. My foster mama said it is normal because when it comes to food I never had much just eating garbage off the streets and well … bones as treats is a new thing for me – I trust my foster mama when she comes and takes my bone away or my food I would never ever consider being mean to her. I really think that this is something I can grow out of as I gain more experience and especially with the right family who wants to show me that I can have my bone and eat it too!

I am a little too friendly with the young kitty in the home and like to chase him. The older kitty in the home seems to be the boss of everything (I call him Mr BossyPants!) and I pretty much stay away from him. So if you have a kitty in your home it will really depend on their personality if we can live together.

I have been left for up to 8 hours in the home alone with currently no destruction but do have a little anxiety and will cry when you leave and will bark when I know you are back home. Neighbor says the crying when you leave does not last long but still it would probably be better that I am in a home and not an apartment or condo style home. While the current neighbor is just as fantabulous as my foster mummy is not all neighbors are and I would really hate to get my new adoptive family in trouble just because I miss them and cry!

I really very much love, affection and attention – there is no wayyyyyyyyy you could ever give me enough and in return for all your lovin’ I will give you kisses and snuggles! I am a super happy guy and would love to finally have a family of my own… one that is all mine! One that will spend time walking with me, watching tv with me and teaching me all the things I need to know about living as a loved family member.
For the first two years of my life humans considered me a nuisance on the streets as I fought and struggled to survive everyday; I DID survive though! And NOW here I AM!
I know that with the most perfect family I will be the most perfect family dog because really it is all I ever wanted and dreamed about when I didn’t even know this world could exist! I dreamt of soft beds, full belly, waking you up with morning kisses and laying by your bed at night quietly listening to you breathe deeply, making sure you are safe before falling asleep myself. I spent two very long and hard and lonely years fighting to get to this place today; to right here and right now for you to read this and realize I am the one you have been looking for!!
I am your new best friend and family and you are mine!
