My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At the still young age of 4 years old, Archie is our little troubled soul … and you are going to have to be a special person to adopt our little boy.

Inside there is a sweet and wonderful bully but his past has made him wary and UN-trusting of life, and we believe he has built a wall around himself as a way of coping with his past and the cruel world around him. His first owners abused him until he was returned to a breeder. His second owners loved him but due to increasing work commitments he was left alone in his crate for so many hours or boarded in a kennel that eventually they realized that this was the worst possible situation for Archie and asked the Rescue to find a new home for him. So his social interaction has been one of mainly abuse or left alone for long hours at a time.

He is going to need an owner who will commit 200% to teaching Archie that he deserves to be loved. Maybe then he will start to learn to relax.
He loves his crate .. his “man cave” … because in there he feels safe. So he will often go in on his own when he needs to be alone with his thoughts. If you chat to him whilst he’s in his crate (sorry… man cave!) he will growl at you like a grumpy old man telling you to go away and leave him alone.

Just like a typical bully he is VERY treat orientated. He does beg a lot which is being worked on!! Archie loves a routine and reacts very well to that lifestyle.
He gets super excited every time you come home. He is house trained and is fantastic on a leash. Cars however are still a little scary to him, and he needs to be in the back by himself whilst you talk to him and reassure him from the front seat.

Archie can show dominant tendencies and will stand on you if you pet him. You can’t let this happen because Archie starts to believe that he is the alpha which is not a position he really wants. So Archie can only come up on the couch on your terms, or not at all. Being an alpha is not the role Archie wants or is that good at in all honesty, he wants to be asleep in his bed, but he feels that he is being forced into that position if you give him the opportunity. Archie needs to know that you, his pawrent, is in control at all times.

Now here’s something else that is definitely an “Archie-ism”. He loves to be petted, and then he realizes that he has let his guard down and that you’re starting to reach his little heart, and so he starts to growl.
That’s when the petting stops, but we are hopeful that one day he will learn that trusting is a good thing and that he’ll never be hurt again. Any growling is met with a firm “Archie no no you’re a good boy, good boy” and he stops. Any correction must be firm but not scare him because of the abuse he has suffered.

Archie doesn’t know how to play so at the moment there is no play time with toys or you.
There has to be "NO DOGS" in the home so Archie needs to be an only fur-kid. He has come into contact with cats and seemed OK but it may be best if he is only with cats who keep themselves to themselves.
