My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Annabelle has been living with a grandma for the past three years and was very closely bonded to her. Unfortunately her owner recently passed away, so Annabelle is looking for someone to hold her in their lap.

Annabelle had a rough life before our family rescued her six years ago. She was found with several other Chihuahuas with shackle marks around her little legs, and was emaciated. She was terrified and refused to eat, but with loving care, she transformed into a happy, loyal companion. Annabelle loves to snuggle, roll over for belly rubs, and sit in her person’s lap. She is the perfect friend for someone who spends a lot of time at home, though she also does just fine when left alone. Annabelle likes people and is not at all aggressive.

She would prefer to be the only dog in your home. She is initially barky with other dogs and probably will be able to adjust with time and patient training. She lived with other calm small dogs and cats in the past and did fine, but has not been around other animals in recent years.

Annabelle lost her vision several months ago, but she is still able to find her food and water bowls, to take walks outside, and to jump onto her favorite chairs and laps. She just needs help being carried up and down the stairs, and since she is so little, you can carry her in one hand. It will take time for her to learn to navigate a new environment, but she is a tough little cookie and a real survivor. We know that she will be the perfect pet for the right person, and we will help in the transition process.

Annabelle is currently living in San Francisco. We are looking for a good home for her because we have three other dogs and are unable to give her the attention she deserves.

She’s spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on all shots. For more information contact: Please contact: Elana Kupferman - ekupferman@ucdavis.edu
