My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SHAKIRA is a 9 year old spayed chocolate female Lab who weighs 55 pounds.Shakira is easy going and loves to get attention, don't think she got a lot of it earlier in her life. She will let you pet and brush her as long as you want and will give gentle kisses and lots of tail wags as a reward. . She likes staying inside, she will go out do her business then comes to the door to come in as she has had enough of the cold. She just went to foster so we will have more information soon. . Good with other dogs. Knows some commands sit, come. Easy on lead is crate trained, is house trained Bella I is approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (5/22) Shakira/Bella - we're definitely calling her Bella, or Lady Bella as she is such a lady, has been here a few days now. She is one special senior girl. This senior girl has some hind leg weakness so the fewer the steps the better. We keep her operating on the first floor and there's only a step or two in and out of my place so she's fine with that. My daughter carries her upstairs at night so she can sleep with the resident labbie on the doggie beds in the master. She goes down the stairs with no problem. Bella is a sweet girl, gets along, a little shy at first but opens up as she gets to know you. She could go to a home with another dog, or be the only one. Really a very quiet and easy girl to care for. She really doesn't get into anything. Oh, and the cutest thing about this senior girl....she loves her toys! It's so funny to watch her play. She goes from one to the other and if you are holding one and squeaking it, she'll run over and grab it from you, then on to the next one that squeaks. So funny. She's a love.

Update (3/01): Shakira has been having a blast running and head diving into the snow. After playing outside or going for a long walk, Shakira loves to relax in front of the nice warm fireplace. She is stronger, more trustworthy, and happy in foster care but would like to have her forever home and 4 legged siblings. She is an absolute sweetheart who always seems to be smiling!

Update (2/16): Shakira is looking forward playing in the snow in the next few days. She continues to flourish in her foster home. She is feeling and looking better everyday!

Update (2/15): Shakira has become more trusting. She is letting us rub her belly, greeting us as we walk through the door, and even sleeping in the same room as us. We are starting to see more of a playful side to her and she loves her plush toys. She loves walks, running, and my gosh does she love the park and beach. She is gaining weight and is looking great! Her back legs are also getting stronger now that she is able to run in a fenced yard and is able to go for walks. We are working on basic commands, leash commands and getting her used to living indoors. With all that Shakira has been through, her demeanor is fantastic. She is very gentle and calm. It is a pleasure watching her change and grow.
