My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

From foster mom after a few days of settling in: Susie is settling in nicely at her foster home in MA. She follows the foster family’s two dogs around and foster brother, Jackson, loves Susie because she leaves some food in her bowl for him to finish, just like Brandy does. She enjoys the company of her senior canine foster brother and sister and has especially taken to playing with a 10-month-old Labradoodle who stays with the foster family. Foster mom, Mary, told us, "Susie went over to her right away and was very interested in her. It took Clover a little bit to figure out Susie wanted to play, but now they are having a ball. This is the first time I have seen her show any interest in playing with the dogs. It's so cute!!!" Susie is learning the family's routine, is sleeping well, and loves the dog bed. She has a new squeaky toy and gets quite excited when it squeaks. She seems to enjoy the snow and likes hanging out in the yard. Susie is a sweet girl who is now learning how it feels to be loved and to be part of a family.

Susie's wish list include:
~ Tennis balls and toys (loves the squeaky ones!) :
~ A home with another canine buddy
~ A quieter home with her humans home most of the day
~ A fenced yard
~ A soft dog bed

Week Two:
Susie’s true self continues to emerge in her foster home. She seems to want to make up for all the time she spent alone in her earlier years and craves human companionship. She definitely needs a home where a person is home most of the time. She gets a little anxious when alone and does not care for being crated. She is actually a little bit of a Houdini! One day she even tried to open the front door using her mouth on the doorknob to follow her Foster Mom! She has so much personality! Susie loves her foster Golden brother and sister and any dogs that visit. Household noises do not bother her much as she gets used to indoor living. She does not likes the car much but the foster family will continue to work on this. Once some of the ice and snow melt (maybe by JULY??), we will be able to determine if Susie is good on a leash, but for now, she needs a fenced yard. But do not wait to ask about her — Susie is beautiful, affectionate, and easy to love!

Susie's story: Susie is a pretty blonde, AKC registered, retired breeder girl who was surrendered to SGRR along with Wendy when the girls had lived out their usefulness with this backyard breeder. This has a plush golden coat and probably produced some gorgeous pups. That type of life is behind Susie now and it is her turn to be loved and doted upon. Like many dogs who are kept solely for breeding, Susie is a bit shy around humans but seemed to enjoy posing for our photographer. She has a cheerful smile and with some TLC, she will blossom and smile from the inside out. A quite home without a lot of comings and goings would best fit this blonde beauty. Susie is a bit overweight at 91 pounds from her sedentary lifestyle. Once trained to walk nicely on a leash, she will make a nice walking buddy while shedding some pounds. Susie rode fine in the car but was hesitant about getting out, showing her unfamiliarity with car rides. In time, a lifestyle as a pampered pet will feel like second nature to her.

Susie is good with other dogs and sniffed the cat at the vet's office and then walked away. She enjoyed meeting the vet's 10 year-old son and would be okay in a home with a calm child. Susie turned 5-years old in January. She is up-to-date on vaccination, microchipped, heartworm negative, and has been spayed.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
