My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ryker is about 2 years old and a 60 lb male shepherd/labrador Mix. Some think he's mixed with Rottweiler but we think he just your all American mutt. Ryker was a stray in Indiana and was in a foster home down there. His foster mom took great care of him and then we brought him up to Illinois. We began fostering him on January 31st. What we can tell you after a couple of days is that Ryker is a big ham and just wants to grab some attention from you. He is just a happy go lucky guy as you can tell by the pictures. Ryker found his spot on the couch to watch the Super Bowl yesterday and likes to snuggle right next to you if you'll let him.

His first day or two was about as good as could be expected. Ryker is learning the routine where first thing in the morning we get up, go outside and go to the bathroom, then come inside and eat breakfast. We are teaching him some manners and have him sit before we feed him. We have a German Shepherd mix of our own and another foster, Jill, and Ryker has had no issues being around either of them so far. He is playful with other dogs so whether Ryker will be your only dog or will be an additional pet I'm sure he will do great in either situation. Ryker hasn't figured out what toys, balls, or Kong toys are just yet so we will teach him how fun they really are. We braved the blizzard last Sunday and were outside playing in the backyard. Ryker had a blast running around with the other dogs and enjoyed being outside. He and I even wrestled in the snow. Ryker has shown no aggression with food, other dogs or people.

Ryker certainly needs to fill out a bit and should put on a few pounds as he matures. He doesn't appear to know any commands so that's something we will work on. Since Ryker is still young and impressionable some general obedience classes would do him some good. Ryker is crate trained and sleeps in there at night or goes in there when we leave the house. He appears to be potty trained as well, but as with all new dogs we keep an eye on him and make sure he learns to go outside. Basically all Ryker wants is to be loved, played with, given some attention and pet.

I would say Ryker has a medium level of energy, since he's only 2 years old, and would do great in just about any type of home. Getting Ryker some exercise on a regular basis would be good just to wear him out a bit. I certainly see him being able to go for a walk or jog around the block with you. He enjoys the outdoors and roaming around our backyard. This handsome guy deserves a forever home and would make a great addition to your family. Ryker is up to date on all his vaccinations and has been recently neutered. For more information contact Mark or Karla at 630-937-4039 or e-mail us at msr1015@yahoo.com.
