My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This pretty, pretty girl is Rayne and she is a 6mth old German Shepherd/Border Collie looking for her forever home now. Rayne was an unclaimed stray, abandoned when she was no longer wanted. We rescued her from the pound and she has been joyful and exuberant and so very friendly. She will make a most wonderful dog for the right family…we are just going to make sure she finds a family perfectly suited to her so that she will never be abandoned again.

Rayne has the colouring of a German Shepherd but she is only a medium sized dog, about 45 lbs and won’t get much bigger. She has wavy, long fur that is so soft, and her tail forms a beautiful plume behind her. Rayne has the energy level of the Border Collie so she is a high energy dog that needs to run and play every day. Rayne LOVES other dogs and she should ideally be placed in a home with another young, active and playful dog that enjoys running in the yard, wrestling, playing tugs and generally having a good time. Her foster dog brothers are bigger and older so they will play with her a bit until they tire so Rayne has learned to occupy herself with toys as well to keep busy. She also will “dumb down” her play levels to get them to continue playing a bit longer with lying down wrestle matches and bouncing all around them as they sit still and give the odd playful attempt to grab her. Rayne had a play date with a young and active Lab/Rottweiler and she had the best time ever! They ran for hours and she was completely enamored with her burly friend. Rayne makes friends very easily whether it be dogs or people. She is a happy, joyful dog who always has a smile on her face and love in her heart.

Rayne is also being fostered with cats and is good with them. Our cats are dog savvy and know not to run or freak out around the dogs so Rayne pretty much ignores them. She would be tempted though to chase a cat that ran from her or want to play with a cat that was hissing and swatting at her, so if she were to go to a home with a cat it should be one that doesn’t taunt dogs. Rayne is very friendly but we feel she would be better suited for a home without small children. Rayne is very active and very puppyish still and we feel she will be too much dog for small children. Kids over 10 years old would be fine though as long as the adults continued Rayne’s obedience training and taught her manners around smaller people. Rayne does get excited and her natural instinct is to jump up when she sees people. We have been working on this and she is much better, but it is a work in progress. She forgets sometimes in her joy to see you. We are teaching her to greet people in a sit position and she is catching on.

Rayne is a very smart dog and this should definitely be capitalized on with her new family attending obedience school with her and taking her through various levels. She is young and very trainable and she will be a wonderful family dog with continued obedience skills and training. She would also be ideally suited for agility or rally or other dog sports should her new family find this of interest. She is a mix of 2 working breeds so Rayne needs to be kept busy and she needs to have her mind worked. Whoever adopts Rayne will need to make sure that she receives the exercise and training needed to keep her happy and fit. She will need daily walks but she also needs running exercise, whether it be romping in the yard with another dog, or actually going for runs with her person. If you are not already an active person please do not consider Rayne. She needs to be with active people who want a dog to join in their activities and who will be able to give her the exercise she needs. Rayne will gladly participate in any activity so she’s a great dog to take with you on hikes, runs, walks, car rides, etc. Rayne is good in the car and enjoys going new places.

Rayne is still a puppy and as such has some puppy behaviours. She sometimes piddles when she is excited so may not be a good choice for a heavily carpeted home. We have learned to deal with this by paying her no attention and getting her right outside when we get home and let her out of her crate. If you pet her or talk to her when she is super excited she will piddle. Once she has calmed down a bit and had a pee outside she is fine to be fussed over. She will grow out of this as she matures. It’s just something that you need to keep in mind and also accept that sometimes piddles happen. Rayne is crate trained and because she is still a pup she needs to be crated at night and whenever you aren’t home. Rayne likes her crate and is calm and relaxed in it and will sleep the whole night through. Rayne is also being housetrained and although she isn’t 100% there yet she does very well and will “go” every time you let her out. We have learned to take Rayne out regularly as she doesn’t know how to tell you that she has to go out. We understand her now and have gotten to know when to let Rayne out and anticipate her needs. She is a real pleaser and tries very hard to make you happy so training her is easy. She is also very food motivated so that also helps in general training of her.

Overall Rayne is a happy, bouncy, loveable pup who cuddles in close for snuggles and loves any affection you give her. She is so sweet and so lovely, it is amazing that someone would abandon this dog. She always has a smile on her face and she is as dog who finds everything SO MUCH FUN!!! Rayne has a puppy enthusiasm about life and you will chuckle at her on walks as everything is amazing to her and the world is a wonderland of sights and smells to a happy puppy. She will grow and mature but we don’t see her optimistic personality diminishing. Rayne is a dog who’s never had a bad day…she sees the good in everything. Rayne will be a joy to the right person/people who are looking for an energetic, smart and oh so pretty dog to join their family. And should this family also have a doggie best friend for her then she has hit the jackpot!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption.
