My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Riggins. I am a crate trained, housetrained, neutered male lab mix who is 16 months old. I am a special dog. I cannot hear. But I am very smart and I respond to hand gestures. I know sit, lay, stay, shake and roll over. I aim to please and I work hard to make my people happy with me. I am also a quiet dog. I was born September 2, 2014, so I'm a young boy with lots of life and love to give. I weigh about 80 lbs. I love other dogs. I play nice and gentle with them. In fact, I would rather play with other animals than with my toys. So I may be happiest in a home where I'm not the only dog. I love people, including kids. I just think everyone and everything is so wonderful. I've never known a bad day until now. I am being left homeless because as a puppy I was adopted by a group of students living in an apartment at Western Michigan University. I got all the love I needed, but now I need a permanent home with people who will take care of me forever and ever. I have no possession or aggression issues with my food or toys. I am not destructive in any way. I do not chew or get into things I'm not supposed to. I am an all-around fantastic dog. I just can't hear. I am a happy boy who just loves spending time with people and other animals. I am content to be part of a family. I love to romp around outside and to play in the yard. I'm truly a wonder dog! I come with an extra large crate, just in case you need it or want it. Please give me a chance. You'll be so glad you did. Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, neuter, 30 days of free pet insurance and microchip.

  • Adoption and Foster Care Application

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

    Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
