My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Furgus is a great companion but he needs a stable, calm home in order to thrive. He does not do well in crowds of people, people yelling or rambunctious children running around. He is just a very sensitive boy that needs an environment that allows him to shine. He is very sweet and needs a home where he can love and be loved, where he knows what to expect each day with people that enjoy his affectionate personality and a game of tug-o-war now and then. Furgus came from a private home where he was not handling the fact of being displaced by the addition of a new baby. Furgus is 4 years old and weighs approximately 20 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Furgus is a special little guy. He is very friendly and loving and has his won unique little quirks such as almost always having a toy in his mouth or by his side. He does get over stimulated when he is on leash in public around dogs. He is fine one on one in his house and was previously living with another dog in the home without issues. Furgus also gets anxious around little children especially when they are running around or making fast gestures near him. He is perfectly fine with adults. He has never lived with cats but we would assume that since he has not been socialized with cats that he would do best in a home without cats.

Furgus is a very healthy looking dog, very muscular and a good eater. He appears to be much calmer than most Boston Terriers and is only a moderate energy dog. Furgus had no problem adjusting quickly to our routines. He just fit right in and was happy to follow along and when we just want to relax, he usually relaxes. He has a short, easy to care for coat and overall is an easy dog to have in the home. He is well mannered and quiet in the home and is fine left on his own for a normal working day as long as he has his toys to play with. He loves to be where his people are but has no problem amusing himself and does not need constant attention. He is however very affectionate and will soak up whatever loving's you want to give him. He would love to be a lap dog but is content to just sit beside you or lie at your feet with a toy.

Furgus is very friendly with adults including strangers. He is not shy at all and loves to greet people when they come in the door. Mostly he greets them with a toy. He would not do well with young children but older respectful children would be fine. We have never seen him act aggressively with anyone but you can see that he starts to get unsettled and agitated in situations where there are young children. He also seems a tad overwhelmed when he is in crowds of people. That is not to say that he doesn't enjoy getting out for walks and going places with his people. He does however seem to get overwhelmed and to act protective when on leash and does not do well meeting other strange dogs when he is out and about. As mentioned above, he is perfectly fine when off leash. Perhaps with more time and further socialization this could be overcome but for now it would be best to not put him in a position where he is confronted with meeting strange dogs on leash.

Furgus is totally fine when left in the home on his own. He does not chew anything or get into anything he shouldn't and always greets you with a wagging tail when you come in the door. He does like to let you know when someone is at the door or if he hears something near by coming to the house. Other than that he is pretty quiet in the home, except for snoring which is very cute. He has been a perfect gentle man and has good doggy manners for the most part. He doesn't beg for food when you are eating. He may stare but he doesn't cry. I wouldn't leave food around at his eye level however and expect it to still be there when you came back, just in case, but he hasn't tried to go on the table or get into any garbage. He knows how to sit and he is quick to come when called. He is fully house trained and has never had any accidents. He cannot be crated as it causes him much anxiety but there is really no reason to need to crate him as he is a good boy just being left to roam freely in the home. Furgus does pull a little on walks but with a harness he seems to be okay. He does not try to escape the yard or try to bolt through the door when opened. In the car he is well behaved and very quiet.

Furgus is sensitive when it comes to being corrected. He needs no more than a light "no Furgus" as he stops right away. He gets upset when anyone is yelling and would be more so if someone was yelling at him. He is very affectionate and thrives on being loved and cuddled. He is happy with being around any people as long as they are nice and loving. Furgus would do best in a quieter home with no young children. He would do well in an easy going atmosphere with a loving environment, with someone to toss a toy for him now and then, and where he can feel safe, and not be overwhelmed. He is fine with visitors coming over though and would enjoy a good walk each day.

If you think Furgus would be a good choice for your family and you would enjoy this little lover, please submit an application for consideration.
