My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella: 7 yr-old spayed female yellow lab 81 lbs

Bella Bella, Belissima Bella! This lovely beauty’s name says it all; she is a beautiful dog from the tip of her yellow white tail to her soulful brown eyes, and with a personality to match! Bella is happy all of the time! She has everything going for her: charm, beauty, intelligence and an overall sweetness. Bella grew up with children, including infants, dogs, has even been around a cat with no problems. She is a super easy, super sweet dog.

A few months ago, Bella injured herself, and her owner could not afford the surgery she needed. We have had Bella evaluated, and will be scheduling the surgery for her soon.

Bella loves to hang out with her humans, and even with her injury, enjoys her walks. Because she was not able to get her regular walks after her injury, she does have a few extra pounds she will need to lose after her surgery; it’s important for her comfort and mobility to keep her fit and at a good weight. As is typical for a dog her age, she also has the beginnings of arthritis, which is managed through medication and appropriate exercise, which she will be able to get after her surgery.

Bella has had some training, but because her previous owner was deaf, she knows all of her commands by sign, not verbally. It would likely be very easy to train her to recognize verbal commands, and even to new hand signals.

Bella is a wonderful dog! While she needs regular walks to get the pounds off and keep her joints in good shape, a couple of 30 minute walks a day would be just fine. A great family for Bella would be one where she gets the love and attention she deserves and is accustomed to. She would be fine for a retired person or couple, or a family with children. She is good with other dogs, but does not require another dog to be happy; as long as she can hang with her humans she is happy!

Bella is spayed, current on vaccinations and micro-chipped.

What Bella’s Rescue Foster says:

Bella has very nice manners. She knows when there is extra yummy food being prepared in the kitchen, and waits quietly in case something drops, but does not beg. She is comfortable staying at home by herself for 3-4 hours, and prefers to be indoors. She will drop the ball at my feet to ask for some yard time (we don't throw the ball right now due to her injury). She always lets me know if another walk is in order before she can complete her day. And although she has made several attempts to get on our bed, and would certainly prefer to be closer, she stays on her bed all night.

She is starting to respond to verbal commands. And while the training has been somewhat loose so far, she is very attentive and always looking to me for direction. She walks fine both on the leash and off, doesn't pull, but occasionally refuses to continue moving forward until she is completely done sniffing. She is very relaxed when we stick to the routine.

She is a loyal dog and a pleasure to have in the family. She is located in Sebastopol. If you are interested in making Bella a part of your family, call Rescue Rep Liz 415-613-6374 or email liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
