Pete's Story...
Hi! My name is Pete. I'm a sweet, quiet and friendly cat with a sad story. My owner passed away very suddenly in December. I was left all alone in a cold, dark, empty house and was there, fending for myself and wondering what happened to my person for months. Then, some strangers came to prepare the house for sale and they found me. They took me to a vet. I got lucky that they found me when they did. My bloodwork is good and I gained back healthy weight, so I'm in really good shape. I'm estimated to be about 7-8 years old. I was found wearing a rhinestone collar with my name on it. That's how they know my name is Pete. I would really like to find a new home where I'll be loved for life and never abandoned like that again. It was a very scary two months for me. Although I'm physically in good shape, I'm sad and a bit bewildered at all that has happened to me. I need a calm, quiet home where people will show me love and patience. I use the litterbox like a good boy and I'm already neutered. I will come with a cat carrier, a bag of food and a box of canned wet food. Please give me the home and love I deserve. I promise to be a good cat. I've just been through a lot. Adoption fee: $60. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, neuter, microchip and 60 days of free pet insurance.

Adoption and Foster Care Application

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pete, a Troy Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Troy, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Troy.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Troy already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Troy breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Troy paves the way for another one to be saved.
