Here's what the humans have to say about me:
CHARLIE is a 2 year old neutered chocolate male Lab who weighs 44 pounds. Not only is he good looking he is sweet as well. When you meet him for the first time he will sit and wait if you lean down and pet him he will give you a kiss. He has a messed up leg but that doesn't slow him down at all and he says what the fuss all about. Everyone that has met him says how what a great pup he is. He is starting to play with toys don't think he has had many so far in his life. Charlie is going to be operated on either fix his leg or to have it amputated. We are going to be looking for a foster to take care of him both before and after his operation. Preferably foster will have one with a single story house or that is willing to carry him up stairs and foster failure is allowed. Good with other dogs. Knows some commands sit and come. He is new on lead as he hasn't been on one much and partly because of his leg. Crate trained may be house trained as he is keeping his room clean at the kennel. Charlie's left rear leg has a deformity which causes him to carry the leg. He does not appear to be in pain and sometimes uses the leg as a crutch. Our vets think this is the results of a birth defect. He gets around fine and loves to play. He has an appointment with our surgeon later this month to see if there is anything that can be done to correct this condition if there isn't his leg will be amputated. As young as he is he will not have any problems adjusting as he hasn't probably used this leg since birth. Charlie is a stray to shelter . He is approved for kids 10+.
Update (3/25): Charlie had his leg amputated with no problem by our vet in Yorktown. He is back at the Weaver’s Recuperation Center where he has been well acting like nothing has happened. He leg is healing very nicely and is healing faster than what I expected. He is learning to sit and walk without his injured leg and so far the only problem we are experiencing is keeping him calm. He will be available for adoption as soon as he gets a clean bill of health from our vet,
This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. The rescue has between 50 ~ 80 dogs available for adoption.
