My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Darlee. My friends think I am a 1-year-old female Terrier mix. I weigh about 28 pounds, but I'm probably going to grow a little bit. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm going to be a small to medium-sized pooch. No matter what size I end up being, I'm still going to be the biggest sweetheart you'll ever know!

I'm currently being treated for a severe case of mange that my previous owners did not bother to address. It takes a long time for mange to get as bad as mine. My family must not have thought I was worth the small amount of effort it would have taken to nip it in the bud the moment I became symptomatic. At the very least they could have had the decency to dump me at the shelter months ago. That way I would have been given the treatment I so desperately needed. But alas, I was just the dog to them.

Just in case you're concerned, the type of mange I have is not contagious.

As if that wasn't bad enough, there's also evidence that I had an embedded collar at some point. Most likely I was a yard dog that was chained to a pole or something. I probably spent all my time struggling to get to my family. I was desperate for attention! I loved them so much and just wanted to share my life with them.

Despite never knowing love from humans, I'm still the most loyal, affectionate pup around. I want to be best friends with everybody I meet! My love for people has not been tarnished by my past. Not one bit!

You'll notice when you meet me that I'm always happy and my tail never stops wagging. I'll greet you with a great big smile and then promptly climb into your lap.

Some of my favorite things are belly rubs and bully sticks! Gosh, they're so great!

I'm still learning what toys are, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I really enjoy playing fetch. I'm not that great at giving the toy back, though. I like the struggle. It makes the game more fun.

I'm looking for a family that will spoil me with all the love and attention I deserve. Are you the one? If you think I would make a great companion, please don't hesitate to contact CageFree and tell them you want to meet me!
