My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lilah: 6 to 7 yr old female Red and Brown Tortie and White Norwegian Forest Cat
Must be adopted with Monte

Lilah and her “brother “ Monte were owner surrendered together. Their story is rather mysterious. They belonged to a Hollywood movie producer who was away long days on location and was always leaving them home all alone with big bowls of food and water. Ultimately, a friend helped him by taking them into his home temporarily. All was well for three months in this new home and then the friend’s wife became pregnant and she felt she was allergic to them. Anxious to keep her happy and knowing they now could no longer go back to the producer’s home, the friend contacted Purebreds Plus saying they had to be relocated immediately. I offered to foster them.

The friend said he had been told they were five year old brother and sisters named Monte and Lilah, Norwegian Forest cats. Somewhere in their life history, they both had identical very delicate ear notches, little triangular wedges, taken from the side of their right ears. How did it come about that that was done?? I have no idea, nor does the friend. (I have not been able to talk with the producer at all.) Just in case they had been outside, I had both cats combo tested at the vet's, and they are both negative for the two diseases, feline leukemia and feline immunological virus which you can get from other outside cats. They came to me spayed and neutered and now are also vaccinated and on flea meds. The vet also said she thought Monte might be older than his “sister,” who, she thought, was a little older than five. So that is what we know. Monte was missing a few teeth and had a molar that was in poor shape so he has had a dental to shine up his teeth and take out the molar. Lilah is fine.

When they arrived, they were very quiet and upset. You can still see the sadness in both of their faces. I think they have had a lack of love and attention for a long time. Lilah loves to be petted and you can hear her purr across the room. She loves to purr. She will wash your hand with her little tongue and soak up all the cuddles you give her. Her bigger, strikingly handsome, red and white brother seems to get most of the attention and she does not begrudge it to him but she is happy when it is her turn.

Lilah is devoted to her brother and I will under no circumstances adopt them out separately. I can’t think of another pair of cats that I have had that are as loving towards each other as these two. They groom each other and sleep together, constantly attentive and rubbing on each other.

Forest cats come in many different coat and eye color combinations. Many have green eyes as Lilah does. Lilah’s coat has a great deal of red in it and is very thick and plush. She seems to look different in every photo ranging from wild kitty (as in this first photo ) to cute little cuddly kitty as in others. Monte is also very unusual and I will talk about him in his bio. These two are very interesting cats.

Whoever adopts Monte and Lilah will see them unfold as they respond to the love and attention they have been missing. They will be learning how good it feels and how happy it makes them when humans take care of them. They will blossom into happiness in a way I don’t think have seen yet. They are doing very well with us and we all love them and they seem better every day. These cats are entirely friendly--they are not unsocialized cats at all. These are well socialized cats who, I think, have recently been very lonely except for the company of each other.

Lilah eats wet and dry food, including some of Monte’s, and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
